Value of a Sweet Ride?

Lucky bastard.

Although, I will give you that if you can get your priorities in order (your food example) and thats a reason you can pay for it without just getting by, good for you.

I guess if you buy a nice car, you cant buy a nice ‘something else.’ Well maybe you can, but that means you’re doin pretty well.

why not get a classic car? they do have a tendancy to become money pit’s, but if you keep an eye out you will eventually find a great ride. i drive a 97 civc hb, it’s a stick has no a/c, and no power steering, but it gets outrageous gas mileage, and it cost 2k.i also own an 02’ gmc envoy, slt package, black on grey, leather, sunroof, all that good stuff. i make my girlfriend drive the envoy, because the civic get way better gas mileage, and i don’t care about the way it looks.

my baby is a 1970 mercury cougar, i am turning it into a street/strip car. i get any validation i might need when i turn the motor over and hear it rumble, that car only cost me 2800 dollars, and it was in great shape. new paint, fresh motor 351 cleveland 4v.(320 hp/ 380 torque stock), nice original interior etc. long story short, you don’t need to drive a benz to feel good about the car you drive. you should feel good that you don’t have to worry about eating, or paying rent. if you look long enough the right vehicle will find you, then you can have it all.

CPO is the way to go.

Can I afford a $40,000 plus car? Yes.

Do I buy them? Nope.

Especially because of the business I am in, and the amount I drive, a new car doesn’t make sense. However, I buy that same 40k car, 3 years later (for mid-20’s) and get a great warranty and turn around and sell it before it expires.

I got me a sports car. But it’s because I am really into driving. I cant stand soft suspensions, poor ratio steering, or front wheel drive. My car is a Honda s2000 with holes cut in the bumper and home depot dryer vents sticking out to cool the brakes and a custom made camera mount that is made from wood and zip ties. I also spray painted my rims with AutoZone paint.

The car also has about 2500 track miles on it and has been off-roading (it’s a real looker). I may not wash the car every weekend or even every month, but I can haul butt at the track and that is all I care about! So to me, personally, my car is my whole life outside the gym. I cant wait till it gets out of the body shop!

95 chevy lumina, white, bout 84 thousand miles on that bad boy. I’ll get at least 160-170 thousand out of this beast.

I love my chevy…

You took an s2000 off roading? How far did you get?

Ha ha ha! Almost spat my MD on the screen (except I wasn’t drinking any)

I agree with you completely, $200 jeans last just as long as $30 ones, so I spend $30.

I don’t have a car, and won’t for quite a while, but when the time comes to buy one, I’ll spend the least amount of money possible while making sure it will last as long as possible. I’ll also buy one that is cheap to maintain, both in spare parts/maintenance and gas.

If you can afford a new car and you plan to take care of it and hold onto it for a long time it can be a good investment.

Why do people think of cars as an “investment”

something that loses value the second you drive it off the lot is not an “investment”

would you guys buy stocks or property that you were POSITIVE was going to go down in value? Uh, unless you’re an idiot… probably not.

so why do people still think of cars as an “investment”

it’s more like a necessary expense - and of course some people just blow way too much money on it.

OK, substitute my use of the word “investment” with “expense” you nit picking son of a bitch.

Sonny S you asked?what is T-Nation’s opinion on the value of having a sweet car? What are the benefits?
What car do YOU drive?
Is it important to your self-esteem to drive a nice car?

What is a sweet car?

  1. It?s a ride that you can count on that YOU enjoy driving and to hell with the opinion of the idiots you work with, the losers on your street the constantly vacillating whims of the pretty girlies and the preferences of your mommy.
2.AND IT IS PAID FOR IN FULL. Your ride may be nice but it will NEVER be sweet until the day you own that car.

My sweet car happens to be a 99 Toyota Camry; your sweet car may be something else entirely. I spent too many years driving around in a nice car with my banker?s grip on my balls my insurance co. riding my ass and a slave to a job I didn?t like because of my ride.

I once didn?t have a clue that driving a nice expensive car that I can?t afford, cant OWN- is like the high school boy who looks all grown-up in that rented tux and riding in the rented limo on the way to Suzy Sues house to go to the prom in hopes of getting laid.
And that is the problem; men will do any damm foolish thing to get some.

Well, that is the thinking of this old male codger. The ONLY car to have is a sweet car the benefits are numerous and it will re-enforce the self-esteem you have EARNED and have every right to flaunt.
The problem with so many young punks is that they want to flaunt something they don?t have and probably never will have to pull in equally vacuous brain-dead big-boobied versions of themselves. And, if the pickings are slim that night any female thing stupid enough and/or drunk enough to spread he legs for the three minutes it takes for her to feel if she is falling in love or not will do. And, if she feels like she is in love when you?re done with her then may Gwad help you!
If the proceeding thought sounds stupid then you may be suffering from a testosterone induced mental fog. If that is the case then go get laid and hurry back after your head clears and re-read this in the four minutes of clarity you may have before that fog seeps in and influences the functioning of the only survival tool you have, your brain. If that doesn?t help then a good ass kicking may help and since I don?t care enough about a damm one of you to put the energy into such a useless exercise I will refer you to this guy http://www.sergeantmoney.com/index.html who seems to think there is some small hope for the sorry lot of you who don?t have a clue.

um, the way you wrote that sentence you clearly had the word “investment” in mind - not expense.

Glad to see I snapped you out of the herd way of thinking.
