Anyone go to this school in St. Louis (Fenton) Missouri? I’m currently attending a Krav Maga school that has a great BJJ class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Problem is, I don’t really enjoy the Krav Maga, seems to be more for kids and women (please guys, don’t take offense).
I pay a pretty penny for what turns out to be two one hour classes a week with very little rolling time. I dig the instructor that teaches the classes and would like to continue under his school but they are out of a school that is around an hour’s drive away.
So if you know of this school please let me know your opinion. Also, if you’ve taken the Mauy Thai class please opine on that as well.
Krav class has no contact and seems geared toward women for self defense, I’m used to kickboxing from a former school. I really started going due to the BJJ classes. Like I said, no offense meant, just not my cup of tea.
I have already done a state level BJJ competition, did not do well but I showed up and that’s all that matters to me being 41.
They teach a Mauy Thai class there as well.
Just looking for opinions of people who have trained there.

Why the hell are people pushing Krav on him? He says he likes BJJ so I say go find yourself a good BJJ schools. This Combat forum is a fairly small minority of TNation and I doubt anyone has experience at that exact BJJ school. Maybe try Sherdog or just look for any reviews on Google. Could also try a class or two and then decide yourself, any good school is willing to let a person do a few free classes before exchanging any money.

I don’t do Krav Maga, so whether you like it or not doesn’t matter to me. And I think krav is a good art depending what you want it for and who’s teaching it, as with any other art, but being as it tends to be directed at non-sport application, it’s not great if you’re looking for competition.
If you’re looking to compete in BJJ, I’d find a school that exclusively teaches that, and learn the best you can from the highest rank you can find- don’t just take a krav class because it’s there or they make you feel obligated.
Go through some schools and find out what they’re about, take some classes, etc. It’s hard to get a feel for what a school offers without going to the class… otherwise you might end up in a cardio kickboxing class when you’re thinking it was going to be something else.

I would avoid any place where there is no or limited contact. I am a big believer in the only way you will ever be able to apply what you have learned is by using it. I am not saying kill each other but if you dont get hit how are you gonna know how to respond when it happens?
To be quite honest, Vaghi is probably the BEST BJJ instructor in the St. Louis area. If you want BJJ, then go to Vaghi. Don’t waste your time at a school that teaches Krav, Karate, TKD, or anything else and then teaches BJJ just for extra income. Go to the source and Vaghi is a Rickson Gracie black belt (not easy to come by).
As for Krav Maga, it is not for everyone. Go with what you like and take it from there. This is coming from a Krav instructor (not at your school though).
Thank you, that is what I was looking for. Turns out I have a former coworker that trained there for 2 years and I recently spoke with him and he had me try out a class. Yes, they are what I’m looking for. It was a very structured class with plenty of rolling time and everyone there is very cool.
I have been showing my daughters some of the Krav techniques as I think it is easy to learn and instantly applicable. I’m a former kickboxer so Krav class was a bit slow for me. Great workout though and thanks again for the info.
Warpig- There is no full contact sparring in Level 1 classes because people do not have the skills they need to spar. Sparring is part of Krav Maga Worldwide Level 2 curriculum. Have you taken our MMA classes? We roll for 30 minutes on monday’s and spar almost every wednesday class, and in open gym on sundays. Feel free to ask me if your looking for something more.
Our BJJ is taught by the best BJJ school in the St. Louis- J.W. Wrights Grappling Concepts - Royler Gracie & David Adiv - striped Black Belt.
Kravist - Don’t knock a school\program you have no clue about!
