Hi all, I had talked to my VA provider about getting on trt even though my numbers were ranging from about 450 to upwards of high 600s total T. Obviously they would not write me a prescription for trt. So I went to a telemedicine type Clinic and they prescribed me trt and enclomiphene. I just got my first Labs back after being on trt for 3 months and the VA is now saying they wouldn’t be able to continue treating me with my testosterone levels being out of the normal reference range intentionally. Right now my testosterone is about 1100 total. I haven’t seen my free t or CBC or psas. But they wrote me a message stating they were concerned about my high levels and it would make them lose their medical license or something along those lines if they kept treating me while I was knowingly on trt. Has anyone else had issues with the va? Not talking about them not prescribing it as they usually will not but just in general with using an outside clinic and then the VA is your primary care.
Just to be clear, the VA is saying they will not care for you because your testosterone is high from an outside clinic? I have experience with both, the VA and outside TRT clinic.. have never heard this.. and honestly it sounds insane. I am wondering if maybe you interpreted something wrong. The VA cant deny you care because you are seeing an outside provider… They can refuse to RX you TRT, but also… you might just ask to see an endocrinologist, which would put the PCP out of the question, they might be more understanding.

Agree. Why are you running so high on a trough day? Not sure why you would even start TRT without knowing your FT levels. You may have been fine. You certainly need to know now as well as your E2. Dialing back is,likely the answer.

This was exactly what they said. I may talk to the trt clinic about dropping me down so I can get in under 900 total T or so. I didn’t think they could deny me care either. I may be interpreting it wrong but if they fear I will cause them lose their license then that says to me they would deny me. Maybe if just moving forward I get my labs done outside but the VA does do annual labs anyways so they would eventually see high numbers again. I got an appt next week to talk to her about this.
My initial FT was about 11. I did them again but waiting on results.
Paying out of pocket. You have to ne totally tanked before the VA will give anything.
That is absolute BS.. Not you, but the provider saying that.. All you need to tell them is that you ARE seeing an outside provider, who is monitoring your labwork, such as CBC and so forth, if they keep giving you trouble, you need to speak with a patient advocate. I have been getting my labs done at the VA for years and my Levels are ALWAYS above the range. My primary care knows i pay out of pocket for a private clinic. They cannot deny you care. You just need to make sure your VA doctor KNOWS you are seeing an outside provider, and that THEY are monitoring your lab work and doing proper oversight. And as long as the provider is charting as much.. they are not at risk.. i have been doing this for years.
This is not out of the ordinary. I showed up to my Dr with out of range bloods and they were pissed. Pretty much said get it back in range or go somewhere else.
Your test should not be that high anyway. Lower your dose.
Yeah, Im at 120 a week now plus enclomiphene 25mg 3x a week. I may see if they will drop me down to 100 a week to get me below 900 or so.
What are you on clomid? 0 reason if your taking test. You can just lower the dose yourself.
I keep getting asked that but the providers said (and other providers online) it retains testicular health, no or less testicular shrinking and sperm count. Are there other studies showing otherwise? Ive even considered dropping the trt altogether and just going with enclomiphene alone but I have read mixed results with that.
I would choose either/or. Personally I would choose test over clomid any day. Clomid monotherapy works for some but not others. If you want to keep balls plump you would be better off taking HCG.
Clomid does not keep your balls online while taking exogenous test.
