I’m sure this question has been done to death, but can you use Grow! Premium Whey (Biotest, obviously) for the V-Diet? Or do you absolutely have to have a casein protein powder?
And before I get the ‘search you lazy bastard’ answers, I have searched, and I seem to draw a blank.

Stick with the Metabolic Drive (casein/whey blend).
Whey by itself gets absorbed too fast.
Ah dang. Metabolic Drive is a bit expensive here ($94NZ from Biotest NZ). I was hoping that the Grow! Premium Whey would suffice, but I suppose I’d better start saving.
Yeah, you can try to get store brand 100% casein from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe, but I’m not sure how quality their ingredients are, and they taste like assorted flavors of buttholes.
Metabolic Drive tastes damn good, especially compared to all the other caseins out there.
I would definately say hold off and save up for the Metabolic Drive, I’d speculate that you’ll lose a nice amount of muscle if you just use whey.
If you have the time and can weight every thing you eat. You can remplace some shakes for cottage cheese, chicken breast, red meat, tuna, eggs, etc. Be sure your last meal is high in casein. Of course, this is my own advice, is not mentioned in the v-diet.
“Honestly while on a ketogenic diet, or when trying to be, I suggest using as little WHEY as possible since it is insulinemic and is the most glucogenic of the proteins. When I use protein powder on a ketogenic diet it is always casein or a casein blend, except for post-workout when it’s fine to have whey.”

The V-diet isn’t and isn’t supposed to be ketogenic. I don’t think it would be a problem to get some of your protein from whey and some from casein. It’s true that whey absorbs much quicker. But that’s not such an issue if you are eating frequently, particularly since the fish oil, other added fats, and fiber from milled flax seeds will slow down the abosrbtion of the whey.
Honestly, I doubt it will ruin the effect, but it would be unbearable. Without some casein (either plain ol’ calcium caseinate or micellar) you’ll be hungry all the time. If I were going to do it with straight whey instead I would use 10 shakes a day instead of 5 just to level things out.
Casein also gives the shakes a thicker mouth-feel and consistency, so their a lot more enjoyable.

That too!
Casein gets absorbed by your body verrryyyy slowly. It coats your stomach and can continue to be digested for up to 7 hours after taking it, so you feel full. Whey gets absorbed right away so in about 30 minutes you’ll most likely be starving again. That is no way to go through this diet, trust me.
Fuck. I might try half and half, but my finances are stretched to breaking point already. I did the V-Diet last year using Metabolic Drive, but all in all I spent about $1200NZ on Protein, Supps etc.
I just can’t afford that again. Either that or I’ll have Metabolic Drive 2x a day (i.e. First and last shake) and try ride out whey for the other 3.
Maybe a fibre source might help the hunger pangs? Any ideas on that front?

Why don’t you just hold off until you get everything you need?
can you get optimum nutrition casein for cheaper where you live? it tastes good and is a reputable brand, since you seemingly have to pay an arm and a leg for Metabolic Drive. I’m pretty sold on casein as a superior general protein supplement, i drink protein shakes that are about 3/4s casein to supplement thru-out the day.
