Utah Comes to Its Senses

It looks like teaching ID in public schools got shot down, unanimously, by a bunch of normal rational people that, by some quirk of fate, all ended up on the Utah Board of Education.

I almost can’t believe it. Utah! Who’d a thunk it? Aren’t you guys all super-wacky Mormons or something?

Good.

What? I think Salt Lake City is like only 40 percent Mormons. We’re not all Mormons. Super-wacky yes. Mormons, no.

I like this decision, teaching “Intelligent Design” is something that should be done on sunday, or in a seminary. Not in public school, they would just screw things up with their insatiable beauracracy. I am LDS, I am not from Utah, but still believe schooling should be limited to science, not religion. That should be left to parents and seminary.

I thought SLC was closer to 60%… and the state is like 85%.

Still, this is good

I wish they’d quit teaching evolution, too.

Evolution is a joke (way to many holes in the theory)…Not sure what they are trying to do with intelligent design, but I don’t like what I have heard…

Hey Zeb, I’d like to hear about the holes in the evolution theory.

Yup, both Intelligent Design and Evolution Theory suck.

Flying Spaghetti Monster is the only fully supported explanation for life, the universe and everything.

No, actually you would like me to post what I feel are weak points regarding eveolution so that you can attempt to poke holes in them.

I would then refute your points one by one. After that you would attempt to point out where I’m wrong. Then I would correct you, and naturally you would disagree. Bla bla bla…

Don’t have the time or desire for Internet debates today. It’s Sunday man…family time.

ZEB-

What would you teach instead?

Is 42 the holy number?

God made everything in six days six thousand years ago! Geez. Why do people have to complicate everything?

As my Sunday School teacher told me, “Dinosaur bones were put there by the Devil to confuse us.”

As someone who is also LDS, and who IS from Utah (originally), I agree with you completely.

for most of my life ive been told that evolution is partly responsible for the evils of humans. that because of no faith or belief in a dominating higher human-like power humans find it easier to do evil.

well, now i find more satisfaction in evolution philosophy than i ever did in Deity belief because now i can use reality to judge the merits of, well, reality instead of using ideology to judge reality.

instead of being a pot calling a kettle black (Deity believers claiming that evolution has too many holes when their beliefs have too many holes) i think it might be nice if adversaries of evolution could actually critique it without strawmanning it.

me no understando. are you saying that evolution advocates do the same by critiquing ID by strawmanning it via the giant ramen monster? ive spent little time examining the spagetti god, but i assume it’s created by evolutionists critiquing ID by analogizing it.

In a way. What the creator of FSM was trying to show is that if you teach ID, which cannot be tested scientifically, you need to teach every possible creation myth. That includes random things people think up on the internet. I would not in anyway say that he is strawmanning ID, instead he is proving a valid point using satire.

Looking forward to that stripper factory and beer valcano.
