We had our ups and downs with COVID, but a surprising number of positives have come out of it so I can’t complain. I’m still trying to make enough money to quit my corporate job, but that’s a 10-year plan now, lol…
Aren’t you an accountant or controller? I made the transition to corporate America from a small business I helped start. I love corporate American and don’t want to leave. haha. What’s the side hustle?
Corporate America is where dreams go to die, lol… In all seriousness, it’s a sweet gig (I’m a business manager) and I really can’t complain. It’s low stress and minimum overtime with good pay. It’s just hard to imagine a less fulfilling way to spend the next 35 years. I’ve considered going the controller route, but I don’t know, we’ll see. There are some other things I wouldn’t mind pursuing (forensic accounting has always piqued my interest), but I really really don’t want to go back to school.
I sell artwork and merch on the side and I’m dabbling in some other stuff. It’s a slow process and I still have a ton of learning to do. Ultimately, I’d like to take a crack at designing my own video game, but that’s a daunting 10-years-down-the-road pipe dream more than anything.
I did find audit interesting in college. If I had to get into public accounting that’s probably the route I’d go, but the idea of working in public accounting at this point isn’t appealing. My wife’s been in public accounting for about 15 years and it can be rough. I don’t know how two CPAs would handle everything with kids and other responsibilities.
I’m also shit at sales and interpersonal relationships so Partnership would be nearly impossible for me.
