Alright, so my wife is trying to convince me to run a half marathon with her in December. I haven’t run more than a mile in like a decade. Plus, I’m a lot bigger than I used to be… Anyway, I’m gonna train for the next month until the sign-up deadline to see how it goes.

With that said, I’ll be following the full body aesthetic (FBA) program from CHALK paired down to three days as prescribed. I’m also following a three-day-a-week running program for beginners my wife found.

Gonna easy into Carnivore over the next few weeks as well.

Training

I jogged a sloooooow ass mile this morning. Then walked a mile.

FBA
Squat 3x6 (used an SSB) worked up to 176x6
Incl. Bench 3x6 132x6x3
Chin-ups 3,3,3
Leaning DB Lat Raise 10x15,10,8
Tricep Pushdowns 3x20 (used a mini band)
BB Curls 65x15x3
L situps (not many…)

Played some basketball with my boys.

Diet

  1. Eggs over easy (2), a slice of Ham, bacon (4)
  2. Protein Shake (2 scoops)
  3. Chicken and broccoli

If your goal is just to finish then this is doable but it will take a drop in weight and a lot of focus on building your running slowly.

Doing a walk run strategy is a great way to build endurance slowly and get the body used to time on your feet. Rather than job the whole mile and then walk one. Break this down into short run walk intervals. Run 1/4 mile, walk 1/4 repeat 10 times.

Good luck with it, if you decide to do it.

Appreciate it. You’re the second person that’s mentioned the walk-run strategy so I’ll have to really look at it.

I did 2 miles this morning and it wasn’t terrible… I’ve had a shin splint issue since my last year in and that’s usually what holds me back the most when running.

Training
2-mile jog. 1-mile walk. My shins were burning during the run. They feel decent now. Quads are a bit sore already, but not bad.

Diet
Fasted until noon

Meals:

  1. Cheeseburger (naked) with bacon and 2 fried eggs
  2. Taco Tuesday

Snacks:

  1. 2 handfuls of sunflower seeds
  2. Apple
  3. Cottage Cheese
  4. Legendary protein pastry

Get some ice or just run a cold shower on them for a few mins after each run. Lots of deep calf massage, especially the front either side of the shin will also help (and hurt)

I’ll try the massages.

Man, this shit was a lot easier when I was 18, lol. I can’t believe we used to get drunk and then run PT the next day.

LOL these days I barely drink and the mere thought of getting up and exercising with a hangover is horrible. I guess young really does = stupid. LOL

Thanks! It feels good to be back.

Nice work. How were the shins and calves after?

They actually felt pretty good today. Some mild soreness, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s going so far.

Goal was 3 miles today. Made it 2.4 before my right calf cramped pretty bad. Not sure what that was about. Chalking it up to poor planning.

My pace was better than it had been but I tried to walk the cramp off. I was under 12 for the first 2 miles.

@dchris What’s up, man? I was gonna comment on your surge log, but it looks like only certain people can? Anyway, I hope you’re doing well.

Training

  1. Squat 70% and 80% of 1RMx3, 90%xAMRAP (90kgx4)
  2. DB Cleavage Cutters 25x4x10
  3. Superset Pyramids Starting at 10 & 6
    a. L-Sit DB Press (25lbs)
    b. Chin-ups
  4. BB Skull Crushers 45x3x12
  5. DB Hammer Curls 20x4x15
  6. Landmine Uppercuts 4x15

Squats felt pretty good, but I didn’t push that hard. I stayed pretty light today.

Walk
About a mile. Worked on stretching my calf out. I may have strained it a bit yesterday, but it’s starting to feel better. I’ve had a compression sleeve on for most of the day.

Whelp made it a quarter mile and something in my calf popped. This experiment just got more difficult.

The good news is I don’t think it’s that bad.

sorry to read this. feel better soon.

Hey, good to see you posting again. I was surprised when I say your name pop up.

Well, that’s a loaded question. Quit my job, moved halfway across the country and still trying to not look the same every year. This year I was successful… just not in the right way. Howaboutyou?
