Used Fitness Equipment Dealers

I have a very nice StairMaster 4400PT that I bought back when I was a competitive bodybuilder. I now train for strongman under Coach Davies and have no need for additional cardio equipment. I have tried to sell this in the local paper with no luck and I have checked eBay and there isn’t much demand there either; I have tried Google and found a few dealers on the coasts, but since I have one unit in Iowa, not much interest from them either.

Anyone know of any used equipment dealers in the MidWest?

Thanks!

Talk to some of the small “community” gyms in your area. They are always looking to get good gear at a lower cost. A reconditioned 4400 runs about $1500. You can also see about trading it in for credit on gear you need. Best of luck.

Where in Iowa are you?

Do you have a Play it Again Sports in your area or something similar? These types of stores will buy, sell, or trade. I also have a few pieces of equipment that I may sell and have considered contacting them.

Yep, I already called Play It Again Sports. They will take it on consignment and give me 40% of what they sell it for. That will get it out of my house, but I will loose several hundred dollars.

I am in the Iowa City area.

ouch

Sorry to hear that you can’t get much from them.

Like most things you might not be able to get exactly what you think it is worth.

I say try what was suggested above, contact smaller fitness centers and gyms in the area. Never know they may be looking for equipment.

Since you are in Iowa City, try contacting the University of Iowa campus gym. They may be looking to add equipment or you could post it for sale on a board. May find a college student looking for something like that.

Good luck!

Have to add, I was born and raised in SW Iowa, so hello from a fellow midwesterner!

Here’s another possible option, depending on your financial status: Donate the equipment to any non-profit organization and get a receipt. Then you can write the total “blue book” amount off on your taxes…if you itemize.

Where at in SW Iowa? I grew up in Chariton went to college in Pella and somehow found myself living in N. Iowa! Tried to leave the state but they wouldn’t let me!

I would suggest that you donate it to some worthy charity in your area-perhaps a Boys and Girls Club, etc. then use it as a tax deduction-Julianne

I just printed out a list of area gyms here in Iowa City and just gonna start giving them all a call. U of I is an option as well. I was sort of hoping there was a company that wanted this type of equipment. :frowning:

Itemized deduction might be an option as well…

I was born in Creston, but eventually ended up in Glenwood, close to Council Bluffs. Iowa was a great place to grow up, but I had to get out. Besides Iowa just can’t compare to Colorado!

In case you all were wondering:

I called a bunch of local gyms last night and one owner was so excited he drove right over to look at it. Withing an hour is was sold!
