But what @yorkshireiron can’t comprehend is that the womens’ game was only popular BECAUSE there were no men at that time to play the sport. He thinks that men just ruined it by coming back and banning the game or whatever, as if the women’s team was always going to attract or continue to attract those numbers, which as we have seen is totally false.
the World Cup was basically empty for every game outside of the host nation or the U.S playing. Stadiums were totally empty, even with the upper decks closed. Of course, what was blamed for this? FIFA. They blamed FIFA for the lack of interest lol
You see the mental gymnastics these fuckers do? This is the problem I have with this whole thing. It is cultural manipulation. It is shaming and blaming people for something not being popular like that news reporter did with the French philosopher.
This is political and cultural warfare spilling over into sports, into everyday life. That is my main issue with this. Not because women want to kick a ball around, not because I hate women, or whatever nonsense these morons come up with.

The decent argument is that no one really gives a shit and no one really should. A currently successful arm of a sports franchise is looking for an increase in pay commensurate with what they believe is their value. Maybe they’ll get it, maybe they won’t. If they do some people will be happy - mostly the increased-pay players and their families - and some people won’t - probably the people who see less of the shared stack of money.
But you’re all “GOD FUCKING DAMN STOP THE PRESSES, WUT??” And I think the point of the people opposing you in this debate is “wtf is wrong with you?”
Because it’s a game, and as you’ve pointed out again and again, the USA women’s team is filling seats. They’re asking for higher pay as a result. It’s not about feminism or men losing the right to be men and it’s not about world soccer and the global superiority of male players. It’s about a currently successful, seat-filling team asking for higher pay. You’d rather watch 12-year-old boys? DO SO! No one cares. If the USA men’s team wants the big pay, let them step up and become world class players. Who’s stopping them?
