USA Haters

DSTRBD ONE ? I feel your pain. We need to face that we are not a very popular nation. It?s like you are ?damned if you do damned if you don?t?. You can?t make everyone happy, so I don?t think we should try. The only way for most countries to improve their way of life is for us to destroy them and for us to finance the rebuilding process. In most cases we have a right to be proud of our heritage. One thing that I?ve realized is that people only want to be helped the way they want to be helped. The UN is good about that, ?Send money and troops that we control, but don?t do anything without our prior approval?. I have to agree with some of the other posts that it?s not good to deal in hypothetical situations.

I prefer respect to being liked.

Me Solomon Grundy

P.S. ? you can tell has their toque on to tight eh.

Tokman, “dstrbd_one” …indeed

Soloman, LOL @ the tight toques. Yeah I noticed all the Canadians that came out of the woodwork to pound me on my post. It’s all good though, I figured I would get flamed. Sorry again guys, I really meant no offense… shrug.

To speak in highly simplistic terms:

Governments and corporations do some good things. The patriots can be proud of these.

But governments and corporations also do bad things that serve the self interests of the elites without consideration for the greater good.

Both happen. Really.

To deviate slightly…

Let’s say I start a clothing manufacturing business, and exploit what amounts to child slave labor overseas in horrendous working conditions and that makes me 40% more profitable than if I were to hire a domestic crew who had proper working conditions, benefits, and so on. Let’s say that I then donate 10% of all profits to AIDS research or to literacy programs for inner city children. Now let’s say I use this charity work as my advertising campaign and call myself “The Brand With Heart” or something but of course keep the conditions of my workers completely hushed. What kind of person am I?

you are an idiot.
lets look at the situation a little closer.
if you put up borders with no one in no one out policy, america would implode. you are the most patiotic yet most self loathing country in the world. there are more Weirdos in the USA than all the other odd balls in the world put together.
Plus how would ya’’ run your gas guzzling chevy’s without all that gas you get from overseas…
america self sufficent, my ass.

When will people understand that the point of being a democratic nation is that we are allowed to question our leader’s actions without being shunned. ITS NOT UNPATRIOTIC TO NOT LIKE YOUR PRESIDENT GET IT IN YOUR HEADS.

BedZ and Jay, you guys are absolutely KILLING me!

Marge: “It took the children 40 minutes to locate Canada on the map.”
Homer: “Marge, anyone could miss Canada. All tucked away down there.”

Actually Sack,

The point of freedom is that you are free to question and others are free to shun. I am free to shake my head in bemusement.

To all da USA Haters:

Don’t hate the player, hate the game!

Damn international system…makin’ us out to be all mean and shit.

Sack ? I completely agree with you. That is part of what makes our country great. Would you agree that the President deserves/has earned our respect? I ask the question, because some people don?t like George Bush in the same way that I didn?t like Clinton. I found it hard to serve under him as my Commander and Chief. Because of this I can definitely understand how those people may feel. I do not agree with individuals who try to undermine his authority or treat him/his position with disrespect.

Me Solomon Grundy

Just you guys wait! One day South Africa will rise up and crush you all! hehe, yeah, that will be a good day.

BMF

The South African Oak

I disagree and agree with all of you.

If you don’t like it…then get out!

He’s not my president.

Random hypocritical American catch phrase.

Etc.

dstrbd one:

Let’s make this an even better scenario. I’m in favor of all the things you’ve mentioned as well as getting rid of the current democratic republic we have. I say let’s have a benevolent dictatorship to enforce the borders and the new economic structure necessary for us to stop relying on outside resources. Let’s restructure the populace for maximized genetic superiority including the forced sterilization of the Jerry Springer constituents. Think Gattica- but not quite so extreme.

Yeah, there’d be lots of protests and revolts, but I’d just “quell” those. That would serve to cleanse society of malcontents anyway.

It wouldn’t take more than a decade or two for people to realize that under this benevolent dictatorship their lives have dramatically changed for the better.

Imagine: There’d be fewer idiots sucking up precious resources. Less crime as punishment would be very swift and very severe. A cleaner environment as fossil fuel consumption would be economically unrealistic and alternative, ‘green’ energy forms would be used nearly exclusively by the average American. Medical practices and insurance rates would reflect the push toward a healthier society. Social programs would be drastically reduced so that the “fat lazy American” would be forced to either work or starve (crime isn’t an option as that would equal death - my guess is most would opt to work). With plenty of education and propagandan, the average American would come to appreciate the drastic measures necessary to better their way of life.

I figure there would need to be a minimum of a century under this form of government in order to bring about the desired level of social, economic and scientific change. Then, at that point, various freedoms can be gradually reinstituted - like voting for minor politicians. Only when a public is educated properly and has the proper perspective can they make intelligent decisions anyway. How intelligent of a political decision can a trailer-dwelling, Coors swilling, GED holding, cigarette smoking, obese, Jerry Springer watching, baby factory on welfare, waste-of-oxygen human being make? Too many of those decision makers (and others incapable of rational thought outside when they’re getting their next hit off the pipe) have gotten us where we are today. And, of course, as society proves it can handle additional responsibility - it will be granted. Leading to a near Utopian society after the course of only 2 or 3 centures! We’d all look back at this point of our history and shudder with how wrong and miserable everything was.

Yup, a benevolent dictatorship… That’s the way to go.

All excellent points, ~karma~. Plus if you ever run short of food supplies, your plan will provide an unending source of Soylent Green to feed the masses.

~karma~, you make a valid point, that posing an all-inclusive, economic, social, and political policy theory would fail regardless of how “ideal” the creator thought it was. I agree, with all of you on this point.

The only point I was trying to make with my post is, how it would suck if the U.S.A. never existed or ceased to exist in our current capacity. That’s all.

I’ve obviously made alot of enemies with my rant, quite unintentionally. And being relatively new to the forums, I’m not looking forward to posting much in the near future. I read some posts from another thread and was kinda pissed off about how some people were saying that the US is a bunch of mindless murderers, international criminals, etc… I just wanted to responed with a “fuck everybody who hates on the U.S.” message. If you were offended my by INTENDED message, then you are probably who I was directing my rant towards and you are welcome to message me back and tell me how much of a bastard I am for being proud of my country. But for God’s sake, everybody chiming in to tell me how stupid of a theory it was or how much of an idiot I am is ridiculous. I’m no Nazi (though I am German) who thinks we need to rid the US of all non-American nationalities, cut off all imports and exports or anything else that I mentioned in my rant. I didn’t mean to piss off all the Canadians, the British, the New Zealanders or any one else that posted in this thread to tell me how much of an idiot I am. I didn’t mean to piss off all the people that think George Bush is an idiot.

I’m not one to worry too much about being politically correct, never have been. Couple that with the fact that anything posted to a forum can be misconstrued especially when the topic is as volatile as politics, religion and anything else you were always told not to talk about in “polite society” and you get someone begging to have a “dstrbd_one is an idiot” thread started. Well normally I have pretty thick skin and can take my lumps as well as I can dish them out but this time I suppose I feel like I’ve learned a lesson. Many of you are a great deal more savvy than I am regarding politics, economics, fitness and hell, after browsing the forums for some time, it seems just about anything. Each of you have my respect.

So in the spirit of maintaining some kind of dignity in these forums, I hereby, officially retract my entire post if such a thing is even possible.

So anybody wanna go lift something heavy??

peace to you all - dstrbd_one

dstrbd_one,

You would have done yourself a service had you not gone to the extreme. It is easy for people to marginalize you when you do that.

However, I think your main point is one that should be elucidated. It should be clarified. It should be examined and expounded upon. I interpret you as meaning to say that the United States is under-appreciated. I agree with that supposition to a degree. Remember that most news sources focus on the loud and the negative. This does not necessarily reflect what the majority of people feel.

Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Imitation is the purest form of flattery?” Our form of government has spread in various forms from 1787 to encompass most of the planet. No nation comes close to matching our artistic, literary, military, or scientific achievments. People give up their possessions and sometimes their lives in attempts to reach our shores.

I noticed that there were several Canadians who posted some nasty retorts. Let’s use them as an example of imitation. dstrbd_one, I suggest you travel in Canada. You will find that they have adopted most of our cultural, political, and scientific mores. Some of these posters act like the jealous little brother. Sounds like these posters have a bad case of an inferiority complex. You will find this same complex in many countries in which you travel. You will also find plenty of goodwill towards the United States. Many (if not most) of the world realizes that we are a unique example of restraint. No other superpower in the world’s history has been as charitable and restrained as we have. What do you think Greece, Rome, or England at the height of their powers would have done after 9/11? I’ll tell you what, they would have invaded the entire area, subjugated the population, and added it to their empires. They would not be spending Eighty-Seven Billion dollars and precious lives to rebuild the country. They would not help draft a Constitution. They most certainly, would not hand over power and then voluntarily leave.

In summary, dstrbd_one, consider the source of some of these Anti-American comments. Take it into context. Don’t get defensive. Your pride in your country is well-placed.

Karma,

"Let’s restructure the populace for maximized genetic superiority including the forced sterilization of the Jerry Springer constituents. Think Gattica- but not quite so extreme. "

I think you dstrbd one would be one of the first to go.

doodie…

According to a World Health Organization report, life expectancy at birth in Canada is 79.8 years versus 77.3 in the US.

The bad news is, they have to spend the extra 2 1/2 years living in Canada.

… thats some funny shit, bro

jaystyles

What’s this?

And it’s coming from a Canadian? The country where the government places restrictions on the fair value of drug prices because they don’t think Canadians should have to pay a share of the R&D costs for pharmaceuticals? In fact, the USA citizens are subsidizing the Canadian health care system by paying a higher share of the total costs of drugs, and Canucks (insult intended) have the unmitigated gall to say WE’RE subsisting on the resources of others???

This may not be relevant for some of you, but I just saw “Bowling for Columbine” and it blew me away. A very interesting and educational experience for me… I loved the part when they go to Ontario and all the people don’t lock their doors, and that guy from the states who was visiting saying “I like it here. They just let everybody be, you know?”
Classic.

Pete

PS: I realize this is just one filmmaker’s viewpoint and doesn’t apply to everyone, but I absolutely loved it. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
