I always thought the expressions RINO and DINO were mostly used by unhinged phanatics to dismiss those who look at issues in a more principled, rational, pragmatic, realistic, polititians.
Has anyone called Trump a RINO yet? Because this time it would actually be applicable.
Yes. Somehow we went from “I’ll try to work across the aisle” and treating people with respect to “that motherfucker once voted for Obama (or Trump) they are a RINO/DINO primary them with a lunatic!”
We need more of the former, less of the latter. Keep the loonies on the fringes where they belong. I don’t want anyone who makes up their mind before they hear the question.
Over and over again, Mr. Trump has striven to produce a vision of political events plausible enough to be absorbing, but without the drab and pain of reality. The problems of a typical president were political in nature; for Mr. Trump, though, they seemed like technical problems of storytelling.
A key was to create deeply immersive story lines without allowing them to crash against the limits of reality. He was often successful, convincing his followers that they were living in a new country — even when very little of substance had actually been accomplished.
What Joe Biden seemed to understand before everyone else was that the fantasy was about to collapse, and voters weren’t ready for an alternative liberal fiction. The main binary in American politics now may not be between left and right, but between fiction and reality. At some point, fictions must be revealed as no more than fictions — and they must be switched off.
At what point do we ditch that silly label though? When’s the last time Republicans cared about spending? Best I can tell they care about it when a Democrat is in office. We can’t afford that is going to be the 2021-2024 mantra. But if Trump would have won that wouldn’t be the case. Just like it wasn’t for four years.
If Trump’s a RINO why did the GOP make their platform whatever Trump wants? Seems like Trump was exactly what the Republican Party stood for in an unprecedented way.
A US District Court judge Saturday dismissed a lawsuit by the Trump campaign trying to invalidate millions of Pennsylvania mail-in votes.
“Plaintiffs ask this Court to disenfranchise almost seven million voters. This Court has been unable to find any case in which a plaintiff has sought such a drastic remedy in the contest of an election, in terms of the sheer volume of votes asked to be invalidated,” US District Court Judge Matthew Brann wrote Saturday.
Brann went on to admonish the Trump campaign lawyers for not presenting factual proof for seeking to invalidate so many votes in the key battleground state.
“One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption, such that this Court would have no option but to regrettably grant the proposed injunctive relief despite the impact it would have on such a large group of citizens. That has not happened,” Brann added. “Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence.”
It was scathing, a humiliating order from the (conservative) judge. And deservedly so. Giuliani goes down in flames, as does the whole argument.
EDIT: and this is the point I keep making - what Trump’s morons say to the media is irrelevant. It’s put up or shut up time when it comes to court pleadings, and Trump’s team of wayward losers couldn’t produce anything credible to the court, and got their collective ass handed to them.
The whole maga thing was so interesting to me. It was made up of people who had spent years complaining that people didn’t love America enough or weren’t proud of it or something. While at the same time saying the country isn’t great anymore.
Always thought that was an odd thing but it obviously worked as a slogan.
I would disagree with that comparison - the Misfit Toys were unconventional and initially unwanted but of good character that wanted to make children happy - they were on the side of good. Trump’s band of third rate weirdos are unethical hack jobs interested in cashing checks at the expense of American democracy.
It’s a little ironic, too - Trump, himself a grand scammer, got scammed by these Keystone Cop versions of lawyers.
We’ve moved past the “integrity” bs comments (which only existed because Trump lost) and are just now trying to get massive amounts of votes thrown out. But only ones in a specific manner that go for Biden.
“Act 77 passed with majority Republican support in a GOP-controlled legislature in 2019. It allowed for mail-in voting and eliminated straight party ticket ballots.
It passed the House 138-61, with only one GOP “No” vote. It passed the Senate 30-20 with all GOP voting “Yes”.”
I’m waiting for The Onion’s piece about the GOP filing a lawsuit to throw out the entire election as unconstitutional because the previous founders had a monarchy and a King, therefore Trump should remain in power until he passes it to his son.
And a big reason why it’s a bunch of “misfits” is that blue chip lawyers wouldn’t touch this. It was garbage from the outset, and they weren’t going to stake their reputation on it, to say nothing of the (un)likelihood of getting paid.
It’s sloganeering brilliance. It means what ever the person who hears it thinks it means.
The only thing that kept Biden from winning in an absolute avalanche is that it was Trumps and not his.
You think there aren’t 100 million blue team people looking at their country going “What the fuck is wrong with these people!?! It never used to be like this!”.
Imagine if Biden hat told the rainbow haired banshees “I’m gonna make America great again!.”.
The Hollywood sign would have been replaced with MAGA!
Trump tried really hard to make sure that mail in votes wouldn’t be counted by meddling with the Post Office and appointing one of his sycophants as Post Master General. He knew the people who favor Biden would be more likely to vote by mail, so he told his lemmings to vote in person and did what he could to fuck up the mail system.
Now all he’s left with are these feeble law suits. To say he’s bringing a knife to a gunfight in these cases is an insult to knives.
