The weird thing to me was that yes, they benched - a lot - but I didn’t see any real weight on the bar. Mine was the biggest bench I saw last night. Not that I’m superior, but what do these guys think they’re accomplishing?

C’mon pale one. Check out the media. They don’t want them big, threatening muscles. They want to get “ripped”. I delivered a magazine the other day with the grab line “How Justin got his chiseled chest!” he looked like a 10 year old pre-pubesent girl.
Looks like you’re leaning back to the powerlifting ways a little. Got some good lifts going on.

Thanks Harry. I’m doing more powerlifting-type stuff because it’s what I can do right now. A few more weeks and I think I’ll be able to start cleaning and snatching again. The knee just can’t take the deceleration forces from ballistic movements right now.
Great work in here Tony, knee and all!
gearwhore tony?
that would be cool

It’d be like putting a condom over a pen, probably.

Deadlifts went south. 365 was so hard I just let it lie after 1 rep. Prob need more recovery after the repped partial squats on Friday, Things sorta fell apart after that because I have no fucking plan, really. 235 BP single was not hard, but I want at least 50 lbs more and it’s not going to happen overnight, dangit. Repping is harder for me than singles.
Putting in a lot of volume DCA. Hard to have a plan with an injury. Looks pretty good to me.

Doing these after squatting has, over time, started to make a noticeable difference in how my knees feel post-squatting.

That should definitely help. I’ve noticed that I’m not using the teardrop muscle at the knee for anything, but when I consciously flex it when knee-bending, the pain is lessened. I still have a piece of cartilage flapping around in there, but it helps. I’m considering a bromelaine injection…
There was a nice fix-a-funky-back article underneath that as well. Thanks!

Nothing helps my bench like benching.
I’m probably going to re-visit the “Hit a 90% single and a backoff set of 5-8” and reduce deadlifting to sets of singles@80% for speed once a week. Rotate lift variations through the week. It always seems to work for me. Just gotta pick the right variations.

Thanks, Jack.
Haven’t visited in a bit and had forgotten what a tremendous lifter you are!
How exciting that you might join a PLing team. You would be very, very good.
I prefer training raw but have a blast with the gear as well. Give it a try! It’s a fun experiment. And you might just gravitate to the dark side.
“Condom over a pen” made me laugh. When I’m wedging my coach into his gear, he often says “Just like a condom on a twinkie.”

You’re very kind. I really just a guy who’s just trying to get his bench and deadlift bigger right now.
So: would you have any advice for a beginner on what single-ply inzer/titan or Metal Gear, etc shirt and DL suit is good to start with? Meet’s in August and it might give me time to learn them if I get them soon.
…I need to go brush my teeth now.
An Titan F6 is a pretty standard first shirt. If I can use it, anyone can. But there’s a definite learning curve with a shirt and you need help to get into it, seat it properly, and use it.
A DL suit is easy to learn. Throw it on, pull yourself down to the bar, and lift! A Titan Velocity is good. Be sure to specify sumo or conventional stance. The legs are made different.
