A few years later Ted Arcidi, first over 700# bench, became a wrestler and did some bench contests in the ring. He usually lost cause he was always a heel.
Never knew any of that about Norris, cool story.
In 2007 i went with my strength coach buddy to the AOBS. My buddy knew some people there. We did some strength feats before the dinner and i told to sit next to Bruce Whilhelm (1st ever WSM) his brother was sitting at the table and Steve Jeck was too. Bruce would say “i dont know who the blank this guy sitting next to me is”. We were all drinking at the table.
Anyway heres Bruce speaking about Patera when Ken was honored at the dinner years later.
I swear i saw a match where Ken did a summer salt over Andre head (with the help of Andre, that was the greatest move id ever seen and Ken was not a youngster. To do that would be higher than the top turn buckle.
Monday 12/5/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
127.5 x 30 (new 30 rep PR) I was not doing much benching (floor press is close enough) at all in my career, like most do.
One arm shrugs tricep/hammer bar
50+bar x11ea. x 11 ea. x12 ea. side, never put the bar down. Getting easier.
Tuesday 12/6/22
Today was a special day, training is not the priority today, but I still snuck something in-
100# plate side bends (holding 100# plate at the side) x 11 ea. side
Upright rows tricep/hammer bar-
50+bar x few
did some chores
52.5+bar x 25
Wed. 12/7/22
Squats-
warmups
126.5 x 57
about an hour rest
Floor Press-
120 warm
128.5 x 27
I’ve been very sleepy in the head from training daily, my energy is fine, I just feel like I could sleep all day. Wanting to do these squats is mentally hard, the work is fine once I get going, but the thought of doing 50+…I’m going into it saying, eh I’ll just do 50, once I’m at 50, then I can say, keep going, one more than last time.
Thursday 12/8/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
136 x 23 wide
160 x 15 narrow
100# Plate BOR-
100# x 27, 120 x 5 Load and lift.
Didn’t get any neck work in this week. Maybe tomorrow.
Friday 12/9/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
125 x 31 wide
Tricep extension pushups-
20 (first time doing 20 of these).
Saturday 12/10/22
GYM BW 201 (lost 2# in one week)
Dead lifts-
135 x 10
185 x few
225 x 27 (DOH, except for reps 15 and somewhere else) I actually mentally just fuking quit on this.
285 x 13 DOH (10 unbroken reps, last three, re-gripped each rep)
hammer/strength back extension (1st time doing this) held a 100# atlas stone x 10
neck curls - 25# plate x 25, 50
I was so pissed about the 225 deads, I think on Saturday mornings I’m not mentally there, maybe cause it’s early and I have a few drinks the night before and don’t eat anything before training.
I was thinking about it all day and decided I was gonna hit this again tomorrow as punishment.
Sunday 12/11/22
Standard generic Olympic bar Deads DOH for high reps, goal is 30, only use a mixed grip to hold at lockout for TUT.
punishment add 5#
230 x 30 (DOH except rep 20 and 27) This toasted me, this bar is way harder to DOH than the powerlifting bar, it’s a tad thicker and has crap knurling and no spring.
It was a max effort for DOH, mixed grip is easy. People who don’t do DOH for high reps don’t understand how DOH trashes the CNS and it makes the cardio affect worse. The pump in the wrists and forearms comes in about 5 minutes after the set, so you are breathing heavy for 5 minutes, then the pump starts which makes the recovery more intense. I did this set at “halftime” and my cardio finally started calming down 1:00 left in the 3rd quarter.
I will need to do this more often to really get used to 30 reps. I wanna break 41 reps with 220-225. The thinner bar I have is alot better for that.
Monday 12/12/22
Noon workout-
Floor Press-
120 warm
139.5 x 21 wide
151 x 17 narrow
Late Afternoon-
100# plate side bends x13 ea. side, 5 each side (never put the plate down)
Barbell curls-
60# x 56 (PR for reps)
Tuesday 12/13/22
Floor Press -
120 warm up
122.5 x 30 wide
160.5 x 16 narrow
One arm shrugs w/ tricep/hammer bar, from the front-
50+bar warm
60+bar x10ea. x 10ea. 10ea. switched grip every 10reps
Doing these shrugs in the front hits targets closer to the neck of the traps, from the side hits the middle back, so it’s important to note these as from the front or side.
This is why I like Buzz Sawyer, he was not a giant, and the guy beat the living hell out of himself for that wresslin stuff (he did bad things and ripped people off, which was a sad thing).
but look at how strong this guy was, he actually legit pressed this guy (the guy didn’t press himself off Buzz’s shoulders) and threw him-
Too many people discounted rasslers as fake. Yes. it wasn’t/isn’t real. But the athletic prowess needed to perform the “stunts” is amazing. Buzz pressing the guy and throwing him ain’t fake. Few years back one of my great nieces was dating Jackie Fargo’s grandson. Fargo wrestled a lot locally and out of the Memphis area when I was young.
Yes hel320, and most people don’t understand that your also dealing with dangerous ego maniacs in wrestling who still are counting on a paycheck. Anyone really could not play by the rules and fuk someone up on purpose. Buzz’s last match, he miscalculated his splash from the top rope and fractured his wrist, after that he died, probably upped his pain meds too.
Wed. 12/14/22
Squats (filmed)
127.5 x 58 (lets hope I counted correctly)
this was pressed on and off the shoulders, if you don’t wanna watch it all, watch the press at the end. And the music is fitting, it’s about an Enema Bandit, hence Enema Squats.
Finished with 100# plate side bends-
15ea.side, 5ea. side
I think the side bends are a good daily finisher, gotta get my sides as solid as my pecs now.
Enjoy, I DID!!!
Thursday 12/15/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
128.5 x 28
Lying barbell skull crushers-
83.5 x 22
100# plate side bends-
x15ea. side, x 5ea. side rotating
Neck curls-
20# (2-dimes) x 130 total (I took the weight off for a minute at rep 67, couldn’t take it anymore).
This is inconsistent because I gotta keep moving the plates and adjusting them. Its ok because it fries my neck, it’s just not consistent, the reason I adjust the plates is it gets rough even with a rag of the weight pressing on my face.
Friday 12/16/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
140 x 21 wide
100# plate BOR-
x13, 110 x 13 load and lift

275 x 10 DOH, EASY
315 x 15 mixed grip

135 x 1
155 by 3- attempts. I’m too scared to get under it, don’t wanna drop it.
Hammer strength back extension hold and rowing a 105# stone-
x12 reps
Went home ate-
Situps with 100# on chest x 21
Sunday 12/18/22
Floor Press-
120 warm

100# plates side bends-
x15ea. side, x6 ea. side
You have Atlas Stones.
So Jealous.
The gym I go to has the Atlas Stones. The heavier ones there I once owned and gave them to the gym when I moved.
Back when I competed our lightest training stone was 230# (the lightest in our comps in the 200# open class was 225# my first year, eventually the lightest was 245#). We didn’t have a novice or masters class back then either, my first contest was “open” and our chairman was over 45 and competed with all the youngsters.
This is the first I’ve ever trained with lighter stones, I find it more productive as you can shoulder them for reps and get more of a mid-section/lat workout.
Monday 12/19/22
Dead Lifts - Standard thin bar-
130ish x 10 DOH
231 x 31 (DOH, except rep 15, 27,28)
Man, TOASTED that was not much easier, just a little on the grip, but I think these are the most productive thing I’m doing. Gotta just keep working these 30+ reppers consistently and I think it’s gonna put some quality size on.
Barbell Curls-
81# x 30 reps
Tuesday 12/20/22
Floor Press-
120 warm
141 x 21 wide
151 x 18 narrow

50+bar x 12ea. x12ea. x12ea. 1-set
100# plate Side bends x15ea x 7ea 1-set
Wed. 12/21/22
Today I was dead tired, body was aching from the weeks training.
I began my squats, doing my lighter day and I had to end up improvising today as my knee was not feeling right as I was squatting, once that happened I began to have problems all over with lower back sorness etc.
The good news is that things got 100% better on my last set of squats. I may need to revisit them tomorrow. There’s always next time, until there isn’t, we don’t know when that’ll be.
I’m making gains everyday, my stomach is almost as flat as B.Griner chest, I think.
Squat-
warmup
107# x 15 (knee issues)
107# x 50 feeling crappy
107# x 50 felt mush better.
Well, I’ve never done two sets of 50 before, so I’ll take it.
Barbell Skull crushers-
72 x 21, 20
That was more improvising, I just didn’t have the 1-all out set mindset today. I only rested like 50seconds to a minute between those skull crushers.
Thursday 12/22/22
Feeling alot better today, so I said I was gonna revisit squats…
Squats-
warmup
108# x 75 reps
I needed that!!!
Floor press-
120 warm
125 x 26,7
I had to take a 30 second break at rep 26. I wasn’t expecting to get 30+ reps after doing 75 rep squats.
The weekend starts now for me, training will be done as I have time. May not get a chance to post up for a few days.
Hopefully i didnt forget anything.
