5k run today

My calves were having none of it.

I go to two gyms (same chain) and have definitely established that the old ass treadmills at one gym are havoc on my shinsplits and calves whenever I run with any pace

21:30 felt a lot harder than it had any right to.

Yeah I’m significantly heavier than when I completed base building but I managed 15ks the other day on the good treadmills without issue.

Could just be a low day. Fuck it, who cares. Work got done.

For all intents and purposes yep. Did a few months consistently maybe six years ago now so I have retained nothing haha

Back again for a 6.30 am class
Stiff and sore but hungry to learn

Worked on bodylock guard passes against a butterfly type guard. I really enjoyed this pressure style passing.

Managed to pass a few times during rounds afterwards which was awesome.

It is a truly humbling experience to be an absolute beginner at something again and I love it. I hope I can keep consistently going with my rotating roster. Something about locking up with someone just feels incredibly satisfying

Though.

If more people stopped focusing on some perceived reward at the end of a training cycle and accepted that training WAS the payoff they would have more success sooner, no matter what program they have used.

I believe it’s why I’ve been able to make continual progress and overcome stagnation.

Whether keto, vego, IIFYM or nothing

Whether 531, HIIB, WSSB or Brian Ahlsruhe stuff.

It doesn’t matter. Effort matters.

A still mind, a savage heart. Let’s fucking go.

I agree with this, but the question is how? How do you make someone just work and see that work as the reward ?

By doing difficult shit voluntarily without looking for some reward or pat on the back. By reminding yourself when your mind wanders.

Discipline is a constant choice to make the right call and shut out the other voices. It’s simple, not easy

The thing is, you can’t make them.

Only the individual can control their own inner dialogue

In a world that is all about quick gratification and gamification by offering rewards for leveling up or hitting an achievement. How do we get kids to switch on and just want to do the work. I am asking this as a genuine question. I would love to be able to get my kids to understand the benefit of just working hard and having the work as the reward.

I don’t know the answer to that. I would imagine seeing their father working the way he does would be a good influence

I think interactivity with kids is really important. Doing the yard work together, doing the dishes and cleaning together. Homework together etc.

I think that not only gets them doing the work, but they also see you doing the work for no other reason than to do the work if that makes sense?

I think you are right, doing chores together or projects like building something together are great. Essentially any time spent one to one with your kids is always going to be beneficial. A my kids get older (8,10,11) I am starting to see the ‘I dont want to’, ‘I cant be bothered’ or the ‘I am lazy and dont wat to work’ mentality raise its head. How I understand that these are all normal things and definitely something I would have felt as a kid too. But as a parent it is a source of great frustration.
