Understanding Blood Pressure & Variations Through the Day

Hello, Can anyone with more of an understanding shed some light on a question I have about blood pressure please?

I have been taking readings upon waking and also throughout the day, I take 3 readings each time and then work out the average, mostly I am between 118-125/ 55-65 as an average, these readings are when I sit and relax for 5 minutes before the test, doing it by the book if you will, but If i am walking about or doing my usual daily errands and then I sit and take my blood pressure right away, it is 130-135/65-70.

Now does this mean I have normal blood pressure or elevated?
Is it normal for blood pressure to spike when walking and moving etc?

At rest it is 120/60 which i’m happy with although 110/60 would be more ideal, but when i’m moving and stop and take it then it is 130/70.

Can anyone shed more light on this, is 130/70 when mildly active such as walking around the house classed as high and will it cause damage?

For background info, my resting heart rate is in the mid 50s - 60s, Ive also had an echo cardiogram and a stress test performed this year and my heart fine, my ejection fraction and stroke volume etc lean on the athletic side of normal.

I weight train 6 days per week and do cardio, Im planning on drinking beet juice daily to help lower it too, any other tips on lowering it?

Thank you

Yes it is normal and your metabolism is higher after sustained metabolic activity. When you have been at rest for a while, expect to see blood pressure at it’s lowest point.

This is ideal as a lower heart rate at rest indicates more efficient heart function and a healthier cardiovascular system.

No being sedentary all day and not being active will cause damage.

If you are not already, may I suggest doing yoga or meditation in addition to what sounds like a good diet and excersise routine. Just be sure not to over do it in your training.

Back in the '70s, the Soviets used blood pressure with their weightlifters to identify overtraining. I assume they did with other athletes as well. Not sure if I remember exactly, but if waking BP was 10% higher than baseline they would back off that day and if 15% higher they would not even train, thinking recovery from the previous days training has not occurred.

BP can vary significantly throughout the day, dependent on stress, exercise, physical activity, etc.

I have a weird blood pressure range myself.

Past couple of years (since before starting TRT) when my doc’s MA does my test in the office, I’m “great” (as in a few points higher than I’d like to be, but no concern). Say 128/70 range.

When I donate blood, which I’ve done for long enough that I’m not the least bit anxious/afraid of the process, I’m usually high.

Last time I donated it was OMG high…like 168. Back at home the next morning (I have a a cuff & stethoscope we use) I was back to “normal”. Post-prandial elevation? Moderately high caffeine? I dunno. Gonna talk about it with my doc at my next visit but as long as my morning & office #s stay OK I’m not gonna worry too much.

White coats syndrome. I’ve dealt with this. I have high blood pressure but it shoots up at the dr everytime. My bp at home normally runs between 120-140/70-85 at home. I’ve had readings of 170/90 at the dr. Office. I’m on two bp meds to get my home readings.

Also, in a drs office bp isn’t normally taken correctly bc they dont allow the necessary time before testing.

Typical.

In reverse.

My Dr. Office gives the lowest readings of anywhere. Lower than when I test myself.

(I said “a few points higher than I’d like”…but it’s still lower than when I / we test me at home).

Since your bp of 168 was an anomaly, my unprofessional opinion would be that it was white coats syndrome/poor bp testing procedure.

My doctor would never in put me in a position to accurately measure along with the proper time taken. He would move me from an office chair to the bed to take it, where my feet were just dangling. Want me to use his hand as support for my elbow, where I could never fully relax my arm. Consistently had high readings, but during the same time when donating blood was never as high as he read. Luckily, but at the same time unfortunate, now he doesn’t even take it.
