Yesterday I was at the local track, working on some 40yrd sprints with one of my athletes, when I noticed a lone figure plodding along the outside lane.He looked just like any other member of the public, who had no doubt cobbled a workout together from Mens Health.
So it was with some suprise that as he passed me I realised that he was an International player from a local Premiership Club.
Ten Mins later, things became even more strange when a recently relegated Premiership Club, turned up for their annual fitness test.
How do they judge a players fitness?
a 1.5 mile run,or 6 laps of the track!.
Amazing all that talent and they are still using training methods dated from the 1950’s.
I cannot imagine the Chicago Bears,or LA Lakers using such outdated methods.
Trust me guys,no footballer shall escape the Box Squat.

DrSTU,

I can wait until the end of the month no problem… I tried ordering the book through the Biotest store but for some reason the card didn’t work…

Beni, I would quite like to learn Box squats…

I have to go now, will post more later on…

Stubob…

morning all, been in contact with TC and Tim and they are more than happy to send us some T-shirts to train in, I put forward the prospect that I would write an aricle about us lot trying to learn the westside method of Beni, no guarantees he’ll use it but we can only try!

So if you are gonna come to our little soire in Brummie then let me know what size you are for the T-shirt and I’ll pass the info on and we can all look like clones! (I guess that we’ll al be wanting XXXL;))

Don’t know if this will be a double post as when I went to submit it, it asked me to log in again…

Beni - Who was the international football player…?

DrSTU - I think I will be an XL shirt, I am with most others…

Do we have a date and time for the gathering…??

Cheers…Stubob…

Guys
I shall let you know of the date soon.
As for the player in question, would not want to embarass him on a public forum.
Dont forget to send me your 1 rep maxes on the Squat closer to the date,so as I can workout what % you need to be at.

What would also be helpful,is if you have anything you would like to work on specifically let me know.
Keep the posts going on the UK thread,so as everybody can see the different ideas.
Oh and never mind the T-man shirts, unless you impress me thou shalt not get their hands on a Westside Shirt.

Alright Guys. I’d be a large shirt i think. Has there been a date set? I think we should all try and get down there at the same time, maybe go for a pint afterwards? Mid August is good for me. Cheers. Chris

Ahh now i want a westside T-shirt as well, need to have a goal towards filling it!

Any date for me and dannyboy is ok as long as we get two weeks notice so he can set his shift pattern.

Luckily working on my squats in HTT at the mo so shouldn’t be too embarissing telling you.

can we embarass the footbaler in private please?

STU

England=Good Guys. Thanks for your help friends.

Cheers USA, much appreicated that someone actualy realises the asistance of the british.

Beni, in the other thread you mention that westside has crossed the pond, me confused, do you mean that the gym is called westside not lifetime fitness? or am i being dense.

p.s. although westside don’t use oly lifts could you show us how to integrate them into the style as i’m sure your rugby lads must use power lifts and oly lifts?

ta STU

Dr Stu
Thats what happens when you post at 3am on a Sunday morning after a night out!.
Not to worry,Westside is Westside, and not lifetime fitness!!.
As for incorporating Olympic lifts into a training programme, its not required.
Believe me when I say that after squatting with the bands and the relevant assistance exercises, they will be enough to develop Speed and Power that you require for Rugby.

I find that the O lifts are more for conditioning than strength development.

Guys,
I’d gladly come along to a UK T-cell. I’m only up the road in Nottingham. I should also be able to bring a couple of others who are interested.

I’ve been reading T-mag for about 4 years, I play national league rugby union and conference level league in the summer. In August Sundays would be a better bet for me as pre season start early.

hey Gareth,

nice to have you on board, which club do you play for? anyone big?

Sunday training taken into account but when does your training start for the season as we could shift it earlier?

STU

Right on US=GG. Thanks Brits!

Beni,

can you get hold of stuff such as captain of crush grip trainers or do you have them?

Stu,
I play at Nottingham RFC. So its quite a good standard as we play in the Powergen Cup. I also sort out the Strength and Conditiong at the club.

I’ve also Played at Bath and Loughborough University 1st 15.

and Currently work for the fire brigade as a fitness advisor.

g

safe to say that you play at a decent level then Gareth!

What does training start for the season?

Doc
I am not aware of that product.
However have you tried a one armed deadlift?,that will certainly bring up your grip strength,as of course will regular deadlifts.

beni,

captain of crush grippers are found in chris tbd article about chin ups in a previous issue. they are also sold at ironmind.com.

ally.

cheers Beni,

i know that stan pike sells some cool stuff on his website like 1 arm handles which can be loaded with plates, might try a get hold of that.

Ally, to get things shipped to the UK is a fuckin nightmare and any chance to get it off someone who can bulk import is always the best avenue.

Anyway, it looks like August the 15th or 16th is gona be the day of execution. can we all chip in and agree on that date(s) or suggest others.

oh, I can’t wait for pain!
