right i’m def on for the 13th and i know that chris can’t make it that day but i still can’t get through to dan to ask him, i guess i’ll have to make a concerted effort this week to sort that out.
yeah the westside system has changed my body more than normal bodybuilding too.
Well we didn’t have the meet in the end, due to some people not being able to attend - but we trained with Beni again at his gym.
We did max bench, bench with bands, box squat, max deadlift and then sled drag.
My bench was ok didn’t do a 1RM got up to 14Kg / 308lbs which is a little shy of my 1RM.
Did a bit of Bench band work, haven’t been doing any band work as yet but I’ve now bought the red mini bands to get my speed up. Like Beni said we’re all strong guys but our speed pretty much sucks…
Box Squatting - I did this with Beni the last time I came up to his gym but I did it again and my form pretty much sucked. The guy I train with came with us as well so at least he learnt from Beni and he can watch me and vice versa. I got it pretty much nailed at the end.
Deadlift 1RM - I managed to do 200kg / 440lbs - quite pleased with that as I’ve never tested it before. DrSTU managed 180kg as did my mate Lee but DrSTU was suffering from a cold so he did well to attend anyway.
Sled drag - Not to give excuses but my trainers were crap for getting grip. This was a humbling exercise. We had 180kg on the sled and we pulled it to the end of the road behind Beni’s gym and then back again. I just couldn’t get going at all - bloody useless. Lee and DrSTU did much better than me.
Once we’d done this we’d finished. I bought some bands and a Westside sweatshirt which I haven’t stopped wearing as yet.
Thanks again to Beni, very generous with his time and facility.
Good to meet DrSTU also and put a name with the face.
Alright guys, i can finally post again on the forums, well for the next couple of weeks i can, then its back to using computers in the library. Sorry i missed the meeting on saturday, sounds like a good day.
Got a quick question actually, has anyone noticed their hamstrings cramping up? Mine started about 2 weeks ago when sitting down and it bloody kills! Thought it might be due to the increased amount of hamstring work ive been doing over the last 3-4 months, im finally starting to see some results, i can almost do a natural glute-ham raise unassisted now, shouldnt be too long before im banging them out. Anyway, just wondering.
I haven’t had that problem myself. I’ve just noticed mine getting stronger…
Although saying that, when we were doing max effort box squat on Saturday. My toes kept coming up as I was coming off the box. DrSTU noticed this and Beni said that this means weak hamstrings.
This is odd because they are the strongest they’ve ever been.
Will you be attending the next meet…? Hopefully we can do the deadlift comp then…
Mine are cramping up during the day, its happened about 5 times now, and results in me clutching my hamstrings and shouting profanities! It happened in a lecture the other day much to the amusement of everyone else.
I think we should change the comp from deadlifting to sled dragging, just to make it a little more interesting than just picking a weight up, plus you have to admit, there is a strange fun in straining to pull a sled or is that just me
Stubob - I’ll definately try and attend the next meet, i would have come to this one but uni work is my priority at the moment so had to do that.
Am off to train legs now, hopefully the hammies will hold up.
ah, in that case yes i have had this problem, my calves had the tendency to cramp up and making sure i’m properly hydrated seems to fix it (talking about 4 litres of water a day at least!)
chris keep up the ggod work and you’l get the rewards.
Am pretty bored so thought i’d post something. Been working this morning and brain is starting to give up.
Leg workout yesterday was ok. Did speed squat session. havent trained properly for a couple of weeks though. Box squat technique was shocking, had to drop weight by 30kg to keep it together. Then moved on to dimels, these were fine, speed was good, got my 20 reps in 19 secs so will move up in weight next time. Did some abs then decided to call it a day. Not the best workout but hamstrings are feeling it today.
Stu the sled set me back 60 and is sitting in the back of the car waiting for a run out this weekend when i go back to newcastle, been so busy at work this week that sleep has become a priority!
Once we get you past that shyness problem you’ll be an awesome sled dragger
Chris, ben weighing out each individual amino acid and putting them in small pots! and got here at 6am to start a minimal media grow and will hopefully be home by 9pm, highlight of the day had to be my proffesor lamenting my lack of knowledge on chemistry!
home to bed food and my lass seems too far away at the mo!
DrSTU - I must admit I was a bit shy, that was funny. I was doing crap on the sled. I just couldn’t get any grip or any rythym.
I would quite like to get a sled but at the moment I have very little time to devote to GPP. What with training three times a week at the gym and playing squash twice a week. I do all of this after my son goes to bed otherwise I wouldn’t get to see him.
Then at weekends I spend most of my time with my boy. Perhaps when he’s older we can play in the garden and mix some GPP work in.
My gym is pretty much closed over Christmas time and then early January I’m going to Fuerteventura for two weeks. I wont be able to train for ages. Just as well I’ve got some bands to play about with.
