No.

No.
I like to think that this weekends Silva vs. Franklin match is what happens when you take a decent pride fighter and put them in UFC.
Who are these UFC ground specialists? Dana White fires just about anybody who has a big ground game. Case in point Ivan Salaverry, who was asked not to come back despite embarrassing Joe Riggs, who went on to get a title shot for getting caught in terrible submissions. Salaverry would have beaten Franklin. I understand why White does what he does and I love the increase in popularity, but I want to see the absolute best fighters. If someone can beat Franklin, I want him as champ.

Hunt has looked great against the top strikers in Pride (Wandy, Mirko) because they are willing to stand with him. Problem is, the UFC is full of guys who wouldn’t even attempt to stand with him and who would take the fight to the ground. Once the fight hits the ground, Hunt would get tooled by any number of guys.

In the HW division, Hunt would have his hands full with Monson unless he managed to catch him early. Hunt does have a decent sprawl, but I think he would get exposed against Monson like he did against Barnett.
However, I do agree with your assessment of Salaverry, it was a travesty to see him go. The guy is a great ground fighter who looks to finish fights rather than lay on somebody. Speaking of a former lnp guy, Lindland should come back and clean up the UFC before he gets any older.

Interestingly enough, he was just on MMA Max radio talking about how much he hates the UFC and Dana White, so he isn’t making a real good case for himself.
Some of them mayb be able to put up a bit of a fight. Someone like Brandon Vera might do okay with some of the Pride guys. By do okay I mean lose a decision. But I think Arlovski and Sylvia would get beat in the 10 minute round one by many of the Pride HW’s.
I don’t think any of them would win against Fedor, CroCrop, Barnett or Nog. If some of them tried to take Hunt down they may have a chance. If they stood with Hunt it would be lights out.

haha, well I can understand his anger, the UFC bent him over and gave it to him raw
How’s this for a future Strong Words?:
“Right leg - hospital; left leg - cemetery”
-Mirko Crocop

I don’t think any UFC heavyweight could deal with Fujita, let alone Fedor. Seriously, how would Sylvia or Arlovski beat Fujita? They couldn’t hurt him.
Mark Hunt would destroy the UFC I wish he would come over to the states.[/quote]
Shamrock would have beaten Fujita had he not had a “heart attack.” Just a little food for thought.

Well I don’t know if Hunt was really “exposed” b/c Barnett is just so skilled… and he could slap that kimura on from anywhere, anytime in a heartbeat and he’s done it to ground specialists as well.
Barnett is arguably no.3 in the world (depending if you have Nogueira below him or not) and he’s definitely the best American fighter… I think an interesting question is who is better pound for pound, Matt Hughes or Barnett? I’d go with Josh but I think most people would pick Matt.
Someone here said that Alexander E. would be a better fit in the UFC heavys than Hunt and it would be cool to have two Emelianenko world champs. I agree that shit would be fuckin cool as hell now I want him over here.
Personally I would have Big Nog as the number two heavyweight in the world, and Cro Crop number three. I don’t think Nog’s last loss is enough to drop him off the number two spot. Cro-Crop won the Grand Prix but I don’t think that shakes up the rankings.

I agree, that 2-4 spot is tough to call with Cro Cop, Nog, and Barnett. MMAth doesn’t help either.
Cro Cop > Barnett > Nog
Nog > Cro Cop > Barnett
I still wish Nog would have beaten Barnett so we could have a rematch between Mirko and Nog, but oh well I was glad to see an American do well.

“Decent” is a considerable downplay of Silva’s skills, particularly when it comes to stand up. Silva is one of the best strikers Pride could have offered at that weight. Honestly, who’s substantially better at 185 in Japan?

I root hard for Barnett, but I think Nogueira won that fight. I have no idea how Josh got that decision, Nog dictated the fight. Anytime Josh got a little momentum he found himself into a hold and had to escape. Then Barnett finally got a leglock, with 15 seconds to go, but who’s to say Nog would’ve tapped? It wasn’t sinched in. Nog won that fight all the way.
Apparently if you watch the japanese version you can hear Nog scream out in pain . But it is Nog so maybe he would not have tapped. Personally I would love to see a Fedor vs. Barnett matchup. I guess Crocop is next after winning the GP, but after that?

He still wasn’t a top level fighter. He was up there in competition, but he has losses to guys that aren’t that spectacular and no top name victories. I’m not saying he isn’t a great fighter, I predicted nothing less than him walking through Franklin, but he still wasn’t a top name in pride.

It depends on your perspective. SIlva has great striking for a mma fighter.
In the big picture though he has good even average skills. I know plenty of guys more technically skilled standing up.
What never made sense were people saying Rich Franklin having great stand-up. That just exposed the lack of training those people had.
I think Dan Henderson or Bustamante would be trouble for Silva. Filho and Kang have alot of talent. Matt Lindland(not in Pride). Pride already has a guy who subbed Silva, Chonan.
I’m starting to hate UFC more now since they are too cheap to pay fighters. They are the cheapest and no fighters will fight in UFC because of that. That’s why you only see couple good fights compare to Pride where they have pretty much all stars on one card. Dana got invited to this weekend’s Pride. Let’s see if he shows. Would be nice to see Fedor and Crocop destroy UFC.
