About the hands, guys:
I cannot recall one fight where a simple “get your hands up” changed a fighter’s low-hands stance.
It seems Dos Santos learned this in the gym.
Point is, however you look at “low hands”, a badly bruised fighter won’t change his style in-fight.

Keeping your hands down actually helps with takedown defense, by a bit. No I am not saying that was the main reason JDS was keeping his hands down, but for a fighter there MIGHT be a reason to keep hands down.

What about Dos or Cain vs Ghokan the mad motherfucker Saki… oh man I love that psycho. 150% into every punch and kick. Put’s his body through absolute wars every time. Cunt has never had a boring round.
Yeah hes a badass. And he still took it to Overeem even with an injured arm. Basically threw one punch the whole fight. Granted he lost, but it says a lot about that badass mofo’s heart.
Also, im sure you must know that Spong has entered MMA. Pretty excited about this. Hope he works the ground game hard and doesnt become LHW Pat Barry (though i do love Pat Barry)
That’s what I love about Ghokan. Doesn’t matter how big you are, he has a point to prove. Even against Badr, that was damn fun to watch.
Now Ghokan is training with Mike, should be very interesting. Mike trains all his boys balls out and their styles compliment each other.
If Melvin Manhoef is anything to go by, the only thing I dont like about Melvin is his boxing defense seems porous at times. I don’t know whether that’s a shortcoming of Passenier’s training or just a shortcoming of Manhoef himself.

Yeah, if theres a weakness in Manhoef’s kickboxing its his defense for sure.
Unless you’re talking MMA, then i can name a few more lol.
Aint nothing wrong with Badr’s though. Trains out of the same gym. Having said that, I’d rate Ghokan’s defence above both of them. Mikes style is so much aggression that it becomes most of their defence. I think it’s a match made in heaven.
Melvin is a baaaaaadddd boy. Only guy to put Mark Hunt on his ass badly and knock him cleanly out.
Davo, you obviously know how many trucks have tried to knock Mark out before and failed lol
yeah, about Melvin.
Against the guys he’s up, a conservative defense doesn’t really work.
He often has to pounce like a lion to start an offense. And if he’s going he goes full power until he made an impact, because a bigger guy with more reach will figure out range more quickly if he is comfortable under fire.
It’s still the smartest thing he can do in a cage/ring full of giants.
Didn’t he fight at middleweight in Dream?
If he had ditched weights long ago, he probably would have gone as low as welterweight.
A true fighter.
@toohard
good point
Do you think DosSantos lowered his hands via strategy (“I have to keep my hands low to avoid his takedowns better”) or out of instinct (“shit!”)?
