He is one tough SOB that’s for sure. I don’t think I’ve seen an MMA beating quite so bad without the ref stopping it. Many guys who are getting beat that badly just turtle up cover their heads and wait for the ref to step in.
The only fight i can think of in recent memory where a guy took that bad a beating and went the distance in a title fight was Hominick/Aldo. You could argue that he got beat even worse than JDS.

I would have said Silva/Sonnen 1 is up there also, except if you saw post-fight pics, Silva looked like he didnt get touched and Chael was the one busted up.
Yeah, Aldo/Hominick definitely, Silva/Sonnen not so much. That was more just a one sided wrestling match with some most ineffective ground and pound thrown in.

Yep.

The only upside to the Aldo/Hominick fight over JDS/Cain II is that Hominick actually came close to winning at one point.

But boy did he get the piss beat outta him.

He sure did. Me and my buddies/students who were watching it were all pretty much cringing every time he got hit in that huge hematoma on his face. It was like watching a ballon being blown up and waiting for it to pop.

Overeem’s conditioning is terrible
He will not be able to stop the early single and double attempts
Once on the ground he will get finished
Oh and his chin is awful
I could see Cain catching Overeem, his only good offensive positions standing are striking with one two’s from distance and knees in the clinch, with Cain’s pace, I see Overeem crumbling.

I love the MMA genies who just know how bad Overeems conditioning and chin are. Especially since hes such a different fighter and trains so differently now than he did 5 years ago which is what everyone bases this off of.

His conditioning held up pretty good in K-1 when he won the grand prix, and he took shots from guys that hit harder than almost anyone in the UFC, so i wouldnt be so quick to judge.

Not as bad as the Hominick Fight, but Aldo vs. Faber was pretty bad, too.

Also, GSP vs. Fitch.

If I had to pick I’d probably say Overeem will beat Cain, but the point about conditioning is a valid one.

The reason JDS and other strikers have gotten tired early against Cain was the constant threat of a takedown. In K-1 there’s no takedown threat. And Cain doesn’t seem like he’ll get discouraged once his first few takedown attempts are stopped. He’ll keep trying. That’s how Alistair may get tired. His fights at HW have mostly been ended in the first round, so we don’t really know how much his conditioning has improved.

I think in a clinch scenario though, Overeem will make him pay, which could make him more tentative. And if they fight standing it’s only a matter of time before Cain get owned.

And regardless of whether his chin is great, I don’t see Cain posing much of a knockout threat to Overeem.

I agree with you. However its not like weve consistently seen fighters known for their conditioning gas in the first round against Cain. JDS gassing the way he did was inexcusable, regardless of Cain’s constant TD attempts. I dont know if he had an adrenaline dump or what but i believe there may have been some factor there other than Cain’s relentlessness.

I also wasnt particularly impressed with Cains cardio in that fight, it was better than JDS but he had slowed significantly before the second round was over. Otherwise he should have easily finished junior.

I do believe that Cain can take Overeem down, but not at will, and Cain trying to close the distance puts him at risk of getting stuck in Overeem’s clinch. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out but if i had to put money on it, Overeem batters Cain in the clinch and finishes with GnP before the second is over, if not in the first.

Chin awful? Whaaaaat?

How do you figure?

I really don’t see how you can say a guy who walked through most of the K1 GP with relative ease has a bad chin, especially considering Overeem’s defense really didn’t consist of more than a high guard and the dudes in the GP averaged like 240lbs at the smallest.

Smells fishy… actually stinky. WTF man, what planet have you been on to say such bullshit?
Reem will make Cain his bitch. Tell everyone Wes said so.

Actually, give me 3 minutes and I’ll make Cain my bitch too.

If youve watched the 2010 K-1 grand prix, you know Alistair’s chin is far from glass. And its not exactly like he tried not to get hit, he marched forward with confidence at times through barrages of punches, and still looked fresh going into the finals. Hes a durable HW.

Exactly…

And the few occasions he did look remotely hurt are kind of laughable to use as justification for a “weak chin” considering the size of everyone in that tournament.

It’s not like we’re talking about flyweights here.

Yeah, when Spong nails you with a haymaker, you’re gonna hurt, and the fact that Alistair didnt wilt at all, and poured it on even stronger after that only serves to impress me.

Im not gonna say hes the best HW in the world until he has the belt, but hes not the same fighter from 2006 everyone wants to compare him to.

Id LOVE to see how JDS or cain would fare against even a battered Aerts in a K-1 match.

lmao… funny of the day.
Aerts is fucking titanium whilst Cain and Dos are tin in comparison.

Guy is the oldest bad ass around in K1. Motherfucker is resilient as hell. Not as technical as Badr or as beautiful to watch but those two muppets wouldn’t last a round.

Still my favorite high-kicker in the sport, even over CC

Ditto to all of the above. I would pay sooo much money to see Dos or Cain match with Aerts. Hell, I’d be tempted to let them keep their 4 oz. gloves too. Aerts is the fucking MAN, I love him. Although strictly high kicks wise, are probly second to CC for me personally lol

Yeah, its pretty darn close, you cant go wrong with either guy.

I guess CC may be a little more impressive when you consider the fact that he is 3 inches shorter than Aerts.

What about Dos or Cain vs Ghokan the mad motherfucker Saki… oh man I love that psycho. 150% into every punch and kick. Put’s his body through absolute wars every time. Cunt has never had a boring round.

Yeah hes a badass. And he still took it to Overeem even with an injured arm. Basically threw one punch the whole fight. Granted he lost, but it says a lot about that badass mofo’s heart.

Also, im sure you must know that Spong has entered MMA. Pretty excited about this. Hope he works the ground game hard and doesnt become LHW Pat Barry (though i do love Pat Barry)

There is no part of what you just said that I don’t like. Awesomeness.

And I’m serious, let Junior keep his 4 oz UFC gloves…maybe that will give him a chance in hell lol.
