Yeah, the fight all hinges on Gomi’s ability to fend off that Takedown. My belief is that once he goes down, he’s not coming back up.
I just watched it with the sound on too. Had to turn it off halfway thru. I’m at work and was about to start cracking up.
I would bet money Guida is going to go straight in to eat some punches with the hope of Gomi down, hes got alot more mass and strength, so his best shot probably will be there.

On the music: It is a train wreck isn’t it?
I am not sure if Guida will go straight in or if he will bounce around, brush his hair out of his face, then take the shot, but it does seem that the top game will be his best strategy. The problem is he does not get a lot of return for the energy he spends with takedowns and top control. He just has so much energy to spend it works. For someone with a good chin and freakish endurance it seems he could afford to try more submissions or throw more damaging strikes. Guida’s chance is that he gets the judges who like takedowns and not the judges that like making a fighter eat shots en route to a takedown.
I like Guida, I feel like I have to. I sincerely hope Gomi knocks some sense into him en route to a KO or submission victory and that Guida is so distraught he locks himself in his hotel room & watches tape of Fedor, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hamill, & Mark Coleman until he gets a handle on how to really hurt someone from on top. I would absolutely love if he spent some time with Erik Pauslon and learned a few submissions that would work better for his high energy wrestling game. I say Paulson because I think Guida does well canceling out BJJ, but he moves like a wrestler so I think Paulson’s brand of Combat Submission Wrestling/Shootfighting/Catch as catch can may be higher yield for his offense.

Yea, I;m kinda with you at this point. I orig. gave it to gomi, but Guida has been fighting alot smarter since switching camps, so I am now also expecting hhim to lay on top of Gomi for three boring rounds. I think the best we can hope for is for Gomi to land a couple nice shots before he gets taken down.
has anyone been following Tavares since the show, know where he is training anything like that?
I have no idea about Tavares, but they are giving him Baroni so I think Joe Silva thinks Tavares wins. At this point I think Baroni is a gatekeeper. He can beat alot of men, but not many high level guys. My prediction: Baroni gasses. Its safe. Hell he could KO Tavares in 1 min and exhaust himself celibrating.
I think Maynard smothers Edger, but I hope to be wrong. I want to see Edger’s boxing pick apart Maynard. I think someone should be able to counter Maynard’s MMA boxing with actual boxing, hopefully using the super secret move called a jab and maybe a hook. Unfortunately I think Maynard is too strong and Edger does not hit hard enough. I see Maynard taking the title, and BJ Penn winning it back from Maynard.
I think Leben wins.
I am picking Branden Vera over Silva. Partly because I think he is better than his record shows, and partly because I think Silva plays to open a game. I see Silva getting frustrated, starting to look for big shots, and getting decisioned. I think this fight will show how good Jones is.

Vera has been such a dismantlement, bjj black belt, Greco Roman accolades and good Muay Thai when he’s aggressive. He should be much better than what he shows.

Years ago I thought he would be the next dominant champ. Now I think the same thing about Jon Jones. So, if in 3 years everyone is lamenting what a disapointment Jones turned out to be, I jinxed him.
I worry for Jones, I really do. But he does have a few things Vera doesn’t: a camp filled with champs, superior physical athleticism, and way more dynamism. He’s not afraid to flip a switch and wing it, and when he does a lot of his techniques start blending together.
I have a soft spot for creative fighters like him and Silva, hope he can stay on track.
Damn, lot’s of interesting shit happened this afternoon… or night for you guys close enough to fly over to Vegas.
Feel sorry for Baroni. He looked much better than when he was at 170, but this will probably be it for him.
Grispi got absolutely raped on the feet.
Vera got raped even worse on the ground. It looked like Thiago shut him down.
Nate fucked up badly. Where was that aggression and takedown defense in the first two? Notorious late starter strikes again.
Guida owned, seriously, I didn’t even see that one coming. Greg Jackson sure put together a great game plan with Florian’s fight. So good he could use part of it twice. (edit: whoops, Florian trains with Firas, my bad).
Stann… wow. Way to outbrawl a brawler. Not sure how he’ll do with the rest of the division (he’ll probably get owned by anyone in the top 5-6), but that power can change fights.
Edgar-Maynard? I gave Edgar a 48-46. 47-47 isn’t that fucked (meaning they gave Gray a 10-9 3rd or 5th round) but 48-46 Gray doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Hitting a takedown into a guillotine shouldn’t win you a round, nor should landing three good hooks; not when you’re getting consistently tagged. Either way, even though I thought Edgar took it, the draw seemed justified. Towards the end of the fight all I could think was: “These guys are pretty evenly matched right now, non one is going to get the finish.” It was like Vegeta fighting Goku in the Majin Buu saga.
Also, fuck Stun Gun Kim’s friends. Seriously, fuck em all. Was I the only one that felt like murdering those screaming bitches. God damn girl, the fuck’s wrong with you. Why didn’t anyone get her to shut the fuck up. It was like she was getting anally raped or something.

I gave it to Gray based off a 10-7 first round and rounds 3 and 5.
Also Greg Jackson never planned Florian’s fight, that was Firas Zihabi. Kenny only trains in Boston and Montreal.
I had it 47-47, Gray taking the 1st 10-8 and the 3rd 10-9, Edgar taking the rest 10-9. I think Frankie is gonna take the rematch, ain’t saying it will be a walk in the park but since he was able to dominate L’n’Praynard in the wrestling as well. I think Frankie will do better job avoiding that left hook in the 2nd match, and since that was pretty much what Gray had to offer in the standup with huge success, I think it will be all Edgar in the rematch. I’d love to see Praynard getting busted for roids after this one though, I’d way rather see Frankie fight Pettis next, even though this one was one hell of a fight, one of the best ones I’ve seen in a while.
I enjoyed the card. Of course my usual oracle like accuracy was in full effect. I kicked off the ppv by being right about Guida winning, and I hated it. He had a great “game plan”, if being spastic from 6 feet away counts as a game plan. Seriously, Gomi has kind of awkward and unorthodox stand up, Guida out awkwarded him. The fight may have had the most punches thrown from so far away they couldn’t possibly land of any I have seen that did not involve children. Good to see a submission though. Jackson is doing well for Guida.
I really enjoyed Kim-Diez. I like watching both fighters and hate listening to either. Fantastic ground work. I know Kim said he wants GSP, but he only beat Karo via blood test so I think he has a way to go. I would like to see Kim fight Hardy, Condit, Alves, or Koscheck.
I need to stop looking at Vera’s bio and thinking he should be good. How the hell does he look so weak at 205? I think he was better as a small heavy weight.
I was shocked by the Leiben-Stann fight.
I agree with the Edger-Maynord decision. I think Maynord won the first by at least 10-8, and maybe by 10-7 since I can’t think of a more one sided round that didn’t end in a KO or TKO. Pettis should still get the next title shot.
In conclusion, I need to stop thinking Vera is good.
Honestly, the only things I saw coming on this card I didn’t want.

Jones seems to be truthfully humble. Vera was always bordering on arrogant. I think that will prove to be the difference in their long term careers. Brandon Vera career in the UFC is over I think.
At this point he is just running scared when he is in the cage. I think he likes the attention, but doesnt really have the heart for fighting anymore.
Yeah, I hope it stays that way. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and a camp full of tough dudes to beat humility into him at every turn.
I was pretty disappointed in Vera, and I wasn’t even pulling for him. He got taken down at will, and barely edged Thiago out on the feet. The guy might be a decent gatekeeper, but he’ll never touch that upper echelon of fighters. He’ll probably be let go pretty soon because of the pay grade.

Yea, Vera looked terrible. When it was standing he was doing OK but his td defense was nonexistent, he couldn’t do anything offensive off his back and he couldn’t scramble or get back to his feet once. He has two things to look forward to after this fight; nose surgery and a new job.
