Hi!
I am a 35-yr-ol female and have been lifting for over two years and I love how my body has changed since I started lifting. However, I am still struggling with nutrition. I would like to cut some of the fat but have the following questions:
-
Is it ok to take creatine and b-alanine while trying to lose fat?
-
I am just reduced 300 calories a day to start off since I don’t want to lose the hard-earned muscle. Is that enough to kick start the fat loss?
-
Is it true that I should not eat carbs during the last meal? I train in the morning and have been trying low carb diets for over a year but they did not work for me. After a about four days on a low carb diet I start feeling sluggish and tired. Then I eat lots of carbs and I feel good again. However, I would like to find a happy medium.
Also I have noticed that when I eat a lot of carbs the day before a workout, I am able to lift heavier the next day. Is that possible or is all in my mind?
Thanks
1- Yes
2- Sure, I typically do a 300 deficit on most days, with 2 really low days and 1 high day when I diet.
3- I think overall carb intake is more important than general timing (unless of course you’re specifically talking about PWO windows etc). If you’re sluggish after a few days, you can eiether tough it out until your body fat-adapts, or opt for a cyclical carb approach (Thibs has a great article about it)

It takes most people about 2 weeks for their body to adapt to burning Fat for fuel, especially if your trying to get into ketosis for the first time. If you do not stick it out for those 2 weeks until your body adapts, then you’ll never see the benefits of this type of diet. After that you’ll feel great again.
To help you get through those 2 weeks, you can use feel good supplements i.e. tryptophan, glycine, PPS, 5-HTP etc…
You can also eat all the Sugar free Jelly you want to help save you from going nuts!
Like Stu states as well, a lot of people are having great success from the Carb Cycling diets. Thibs has written an article on it, as well as Nate Green alongside Shelby Starnes and Justin Harris.

It’s also important to point out that some people never function well or feel good with ketogenic diets.
In my experience, women in general seem to have a tougher time with them.

I agree, but above she states that she’s never low carbed for more then 4 days, so she wouldn’t know if she’s one of those people.

I never said that she was.
Hello Guys!
Thanks for the replies:) I never really went into Ketosis, since I have read that it might be dangerous for the body. Also when I go too low on carbs, I start losing it … which isn’t really nice is it?!
I will give it a try for two weeks and then see how I feel.
Thanks for suggesting the articles about carb cycling, I will go through them.
Cheers:)
