There are multiple levels of incompetence happening there, and one of the main reasons Why the public doesn’t or isn’t supposed to know how the sausage is made.

Were it not for the massive intelligence failure Hamas wouldn’t have crossed the border barrier (they’d be eliminated as was the case with other terror attempts in the past) and October 7th would not have happened. Even the fucking Egyptians called Netanyahu personally and warned him of the impending attack.
Even worse, the Re’em military baze - from which drone/surveillance operators provided warnings that were ignored - was overrun in the first hours of the attack.
I’ve written extensively about this in the past - roughly, it’s a question whether Israel will remain a democracy or slide into religious extremism - the plan was to effectively kill the judiciary branch of the government through changes of the Basic Law (Israel’s constitution).
The current most right-wing government in Israel’s history has the lowest percentage of people that actually served in the IDF yet have grandiose plans that are either dumb and/or batshit insane - including IDF being glorified bodyguard/private security for religious extremists - mostly exempted from military service - who are breaking the law in the West Bank.
