Trump: The Second Year

You might have advantages over others but advantage is not always synonymous with privilege.

I don’t have those things because of where I was born since where I was born, just as where anywhere on Earth where people are born, didn’t always have those things. I have those things because the people who were here before me worked to build and create those things.

I’m sure the Chinese who were brought here to work on building the railways didn’t feel too privileged but their descendants now have it much better than they did. Should their descendants feel privileged? Should they feel like they have unearned privilege? What they have was earned by their ancestors. They should feel grateful, not guilty.

When my grandfather left college to end up in a bomber during WW2 was he thinking that he was risking his life so his kids and grandkids would have a worse life than he? When he took advantage of the GI Bill, something he earned, to get a graduate degree from Harvard which then allowed him to get a job as a professor, was he thinking that he put in all that effort, risked his life even, so that his descendants would have to live in huts and shit in the woods?

These so-called privileges came with a price. When I put my kid’s needs ahead of my own am I bestowing some privilege on her, or I am instilling in her the sense of obligation that she will feel when she has kids and has to put their needs first? That’s the price she will pay for this so-called privilege.

Nailed it. Great post, Z. Jordan Peterson talks about this quite a bit.

Mattis

Back to the Second Year:

McMaster is out.

Mattis is being ignored…and most likely is on his way out.

Presented without comment.

Trump reaps what he sows. Or rather, his followers do.

I don’t see a problem. We’ve had political violence for a long time (caning on the house floor much). If they really want to March and try and dox everyone that worked for trump, they’re just putting their lunacy on full display for the voters.

What?

On a side note, I think the vast majority of you guys aren’t aware of the massive anti-NATO and anti-Western campaign by the current US administration - from outrageous statements by Trump-appointed ambassadors in Europe to accusations of “stealing” and “cheating” against erstwhile allies while at the same time praising dictators, and now this…

So I guess it will be USA & Russia & NK against the evil West?

Edit: Oh fuck it’s already happening…

And China too, I guess. NATO’s in trouble…

Problem solved. NATO will just hide in Taiwan. They’ll be safe for decades.

Didn’t see this coming…

Which part? The free market doing free market things or Trump bashing a company for doing what’s best for their shareholders?

Side note, I looked up Harley’s financials yesterday when a different article dropped. I was shocked as hell to see how much business they do in EU, and especially in Japan

I was being sarcastic.

Oh c’mon man. Who could have possibly seen this coming.

Personally I think it’s a bit weird more companies aren’t making similar statements. Seems like most of the big guys are waiting for the dust to settle to see if it’ll even be necessary. I’m guessing it will be. Trump isn’t the kind of guy to lose this fight without taking chunks out of people along the way

Trump is the most effeminate president we’ve ever had. And we had presidents who wore wigs. He is a lot of bark and not someone who goes down fighting.

Taking chunks of people doesn’t cost him a dime. He already threatened Harley if they leave. There’s no way we escape this tariff battle without some collateral damage curteousy of Trump’s ego

At the end of the day, Trump’s tweets don’t pay HD’s bills. They’ll do what’s best for business. What can he really do about it?
