Winning the election under Trump is a Pyhrric victory…if it could even be called a victory at all.

Completely agreed with you. Both Trump’s policy and personality/style have nowhere to go but down, especially for younger voters.

This tracks closely with the general disapproval stats we’re seeing for Trump, and young people are not as fixed as they once were to party.

Plus, and I think this is really a big deal - young people were ready for the party(ies) to turn the corner for the future and wave goodbye to Baby Boomer leadership. But what does the GOP do? Nominate the ultimate grotesque cartoon of the Boomer generation and all of its well-documented vices. And he won, and now he’s governing like a drunken Baby Boomer on rage pills, and young people - very much driven by generational conflicts of interest in politics these days - are wise to it.

I see this as setting the GOP back with young voters for a long time.

Indeed. I certainly hope it does not, but “all signs point to yes”. Millennials are more concerned about the environment even if they don’t support big government or an overpowered EPA (both bad things in my opinion). They aren’t as loyal to party but they are much more prone to an IDEA, or causes.

Yep, hence democracy works.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this move simply because I feel history should not be swept under the rug when it is convenient or when it hurts someone’s feelings. History, both the good and the bad, should be ours to own.

However as this is still a free country they are welcome to do it.

How he fairs is dependent on his main promise of building a wall. If he gets that started he’ll do great.

It’s all about what sticks in people’s minds. His wall promise is front and center

I disagree Raj. Building the wall is an important promise. But, if the economy is strong and people feel they have more disposable income than they did prior to a Trump Presidency that bodes well for a Trump reelection. The wall is important but as Bill Clinton’s campaign cried out in 1992 prior to defeating a sitting president George HW Bush…“it’s the economy stupid”

This is actually true. The only chance Trump has for a re-election is to build a broader base of support, not further alienate the majority of the country at the expense of satisfying his most fervent. For the record, I don’t think he will be able to do this and I foresee his support and numbers continuing to erode. I also think his actions will continue to dismay and disgust enough of us that it would be difficult to envision a successful run at a second term (I’m not sure he even wants that).

This thread is surreal. A whole bunch of white people died to remove the Confederacy from, you know, existence. Now a guest in our country that could have very easily been killed because of his skin color a few generations ago thinks it’s bad for white people to remove a fucking statue that represents an institution that other white people died to destroy.
