I’m not the least bit concerned with what the House passed…I’m just glad they passed something. By the time the Senate gets through with more revisions it won’t look anything like it does now. Who knows what it will look like. But Obamacare will be gone and I think that’s a political win.
That doesn’t make sense - every insurance pool entails you paying for someone else’s insurance needs. That’s how insurance works. If you have insurance, you’re helping pick up the tab on someone else.
The only way to not pay for someone else is to forego insurance and pay out of pocket.

Actually- my numbers were $750. for a premium plan that covered wife and son, but lost that. To make sure that there was coverge ala the mandate, my wife got it through her workplace at $400. per month which covers nothing. I simply chose to be in violation of the individual mandate because it is more economical to take a $1500. hit on taxes annually than to pay $3600. per year for something that I don’t use AT ALL.
It makes no fucking sense what so ever for me to pay into that. So our dear gov. decides that they need to incentivize people to participate by increasing the penalty for violating the individual mandate.
That is fucking bullshit.

Sounds good in theory and trust me Im a capitalist pig but it doesn’t work that way. The majority of folks work for big companies so they got breaks breing in a large pool. Self employed or unemployed folks not getting the pool benefit got ass raped by big insurance. No matter where you’d go prices suck cuz they didn’t really want your biz. So ultimately you do nothing. But when sick or injured you’d still go to hospital just wouldn’t pay your bill. Hence costs rise. Either way we all pay too much… Trump’s right Australia has a better system we should do it like them
You know you could just take the subsidy and get a bronze plan only $50 per month and get your refund. Call a healthcare navigator they will show you how to do it. The penalty is avoidable.
Also wife can opt out and you all get a ACA plan or if accountant is savy get all or some on Medicaid…I did that when married worked great fyi
Also if you really don’t want insurance but want to offset the $1500 just claim more loss or depreciation your accountant should know that he owes you. You can still do amendment for 2 yrs so you can get it back if you want.

I was curious how that all started because 1) Genie refuses to get back into the bottle & 2) If self employed like you, hebrew, and I are, you realize not only is decent insurance expensive, but carrying high deductibles makes you aware of how excessive and expensive the actual procedures are.
I am in a Christian cost sharing program, which is non profit. Obviously, it operates on the all for one, one for all model. It is by its structure, a ‘split the difference’ on insurance or out of pocket scenarios
There is a reason insurance companies own the world’s largest buildings and fattest portfolios - a guaranteed profit is a sweet business model.
Yea dedectables suck best I could get was 5k but that’s no different then pre aca… Only diff is now more coverage like preventative that’s a big one also Medicaid for kids if allowed… but yes I agree costs are nuts… Seems like nobody ever looks at their bills but self employed folk. All my buds that have company insurance never complained. But they never shell out 5-6k either. But yur right costs are nuts just try having a kid on this shit

Those of us with a modicum of intelligence also know, however, that Republicans frequently criticized Obama for taking too many golf trips and vacations, kinda like this guy:

As for the man himself Trump tweeted about Obama golfing too much something like 30 times during Obama’s Presidency. This was also a Trump talking point during his campaign: he was going to be so different from Obama, the man who worked for the people, who didn’t waste taxpayer money on vacations, who didn’t go golfing in times of crisis.
Personally, I have no problem with the President having some leisure time, and fully understand that the President and family will require Secret Service protection. Duh. It’s just funny to see a President who very frequently and specifically criticized the prior President for taking too many vacations, playing too much golf, and spending too much taxpayer money on pace to obliterate the prior guy’s spending. And equally funny to see a guy who had no problem criticizing Obama for doing so (see above) flip to “Hey, whatcha-gonna-do, politicians, amirite guys?”
