Trump: The First Year

The media does that. Politicians by nature have no spine…

Yes, we will have to agree to disagree on that one. You saw my list and I think it’s impressive. If tax reform goes through next year and Obmacare is overhauled Trump gets an A.

But you and I come from opposite ends of the political spectrum so you’ll have to forgive me for liking the very things that you dislike.

I guess that’s what makes good political debate my friend.

REALLY???

WHAT a surprise, Zeb…!

Hey I could have given him an “A”, but I really don’t think he earned it.

If he tweeted less I might have upped it to a B+

The media can’t force these senators who lived through the cold war to publicly acknowledge they’re worried. Especially when it’s career lifers who have no chance of losing their seats so they have nothing to lose by NOT pursuing it.

The list also has “calling for tax reduction” and “will be overturning Ocare” which aren’t accomplishments, as nothing has actually been accomplished. Just keeping it in perspective. Trump has a few accomplishments thus far, but those 2 certainly don’t qualify.

I mostly agree with you. But we both know that they did try to pass an Obama care overhaul which failed. So I give him credit for trying. Furthermore, it is still in the works and I believe will be passed soon. As for tax reform that was one of the cornerstones of his campaign. And I will go out on a limb and say that this will become a reality within 12 months from today…maybe 8 or so.

Edit

That’s pretty much how I did it in the sections I taught. First class of the semester I laid it all out-- here’s what we are going to work on, here are the big picture takeaways I want you to have when we are done, how you should approach thinking about the subject. Also, if you email me and ask questions about labs and assignments, and if you show up to office hours, then I will be glad to help you as much as I can. When the semester comes down to the wire and you’restuck, you can talk to me.

On the other hand if you don’t say anything during the semester you will be given no grace whatsoever on grades and accorded no help. You invest during the semester or you don’t get any breaks. Bluntly put, and you could see some panic in their eyes lol.

Worked like a charm. And as a bonus I have had several students see me years later and shout me down so they could go buy me drinks that evening and tell me thank you. Makes me happy thinking about that.

On the larger subject of college degrees, I think the majority of the problems are institutional rather than on professors. There are enough problems to go around of course, including profs, but faculty are subject to University pressure just like others.

I’ll give you this one.

You give him credit for trying but don’t take away even more for failing with 3 GOP controlled branches of govt? How does the Ocare repeal failure net positive for Trump?

Repealing Ocare was a cornerstone for day 1 and was arguably cheered for even more than lower taxes. You might wanna push out your timeline a smidge.

But, some republicans said that they were not sure he would. Even those who consider themselves experts right here on T Nation were not sure he’d appoint a conservative. I on the other hand knew he would as the party wanted it.

So true and so reliable. Thank you for pointing that out.

Yes, that was in the report that I read. Was it 15? Maybe 14? Okay…

I thought that it was Iran doing that stuff. And that’s why President Obama gave them billions. No? (edit)

Thanks Tyler you are a gentleman.

He didn’t get an A did he?

I will hold with the timeline I gave.

I was speaking the individual metric of Ocare. You said “So I give him credit for trying.” My question is why does he get credit for trying that isn’t counteracted by losing credit and then some for failing with a GOP controlled govt.

Tyler and pfury you guys are on the left and we will never agree. But those who are not on the left need to separate Trump the man from what Trump the President has gotten done. I do not personally like Trump, but that is irrelevant. If he lowers illegals from crossing the border, continues to reduce Isis, lowers taxes, continues to appoint conservatives the SC and other such things I don’t care how much he tweets he’s doing what I want.

I would have given Obama credit for “trying” to lower taxes. I am not simply looking for what he has done, I am looking at what he is “trying” to do. That shows me that he will continue to try to get it done. At least that’s how I look at it.

And Mufasa if you don’t think I would have given credit to Obama for “trying” to lower taxes then you really don’t know my political core.

Time to go train talk to you guys later…hopefully

Which is fine for you. But for some of us separating Trump the man from Trump the President isn’t logical, because Trump the man is the guy sitting in the oval. Trump the man is the guy revealing classified intel to Russia. Trump the man gave a terrorist funding country 110 bil after making it a huge cornerstone to root out and stop terrorism.

You can choose to separate Trump the man from Trump the president, but (imo) that opens the door for excuses for “why this guy can’t seem to do his job.”

And Zeb…let’s stop the “I give him credit for Killing Bin Laden” crap.

A bunch of useless words. The Right “gave him Credit” with the enthusiasm of someone being kicked in the nuts.

You planning a potentially life-threatening session or something?

I missed this tidbit the first time around:

Others mentioned potential conflicts with clients of their firms, such as financial institutions that have already received subpoenas relating to potential money-laundering issues that are part of the investigation.

That’s awesome, man. I had one or two that were like that and grad school was much better in that regard.

Funny story, when I took audit in undergrad I was basically the only person that would say anything. I absolutely can’t stand when a Professor asks a question and literally no one will try and answer it. You just sit there in silence. Heads down, no eye contact. Pure fear, of what I have no idea. So, I answer and answer and answer. Plenty of times I was wrong, but whatever. I literally don’t give a shit. It’s how I learn.

Fast forward about 6 months later and I’m getting a $1,000 scholarship for grad school from Deloitte after my audit teacher put me up for it. Lol, stupid kids. That’s what you get for being quite.

Then, the kicker, one of the other students ends up working at the same firm as my wife. He’s a staff and she’s a manager. He says, “Your husband used to always ask so many questions. It was soooo annoying.” She laughed and goes, “Ya, that’s probably why he got that $1,000 scholarship.” Then laughs and walks away.

Dude lasted one tax season and then quite, lol…

I will do this once…and once only, Zeb.

On a separate thread…and with a topic that has perplexed me.

Hope you respond.
