Trump: The First Year

I think most Republicans have shit to talk - they’re just sitting on it because they happen to be in the unfortuante place of being in the same party as Trump. I think there’s probably near-consensus he’s a disaster - and even those “populists” in the party inclined to go along with some of the political rhetoric Trump sputters once in a while think and know he’s terrible for actually accomplishing said populist policies.

I think Trump gets primaried, assuming he runs.

Good question, pfury…because I really don’t know.

This may be where I am “off” about Trump’s support. In other words; while his support(ers?) appear solid and unwavering…I really don’t know what their total numbers are.

By the way…on “60 minutes” tonight was his digital “Wizard” from 2016 (who was an integral part of Trump’s win).

Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign has begun in ernest…and it’s going full-bore.

The DEMS don’t have 3 years to figure this all out.

It’s probably a good bet that corker will run against him.

You seem awfully worried about the size of a base that couldn’t carry the popular vote. Also, you may be underestimating the power of having political failures to cite. The largest part of Trump’s entire campaign was “I’ve never been in govt, vote for me because I’m different.”

Fast forward to today. POTUS in a twitter war with NFL players, Republicans control all 3 branches and can’t get anything passed (probably that goddamn media using those Illuminati powers), constantly shit the bed with HC, and degrading foreign relations on a semi regular basis. I mean hell, McCain was handed a death sentence on a clock and one of his first actions was to call Trump out for his shit.

Holding rallies where the non sketchy pictures show tiny crowds and struggling to fill a convention center? What is he taking to these people to sway them to his side? His son tweeting about getting help from Russia?

The Dems are certainly working on things as we speak. I, for one, would be supremely ashamed of them if they were to allow the intended front runners anywhere near the limelight this early. 3 years of twittertard in chief is enough to wear down public faith in someone, but only if he knows who that someone is.

(But what about Gorsuch?)

pfury…I hope you are not getting the impression that I am a Trump Supporter…I am not.

My point has always been that only Trump will defeat Trump.

History is strewn with demagogues like him. Sure…he’ll blame the media, the “Dark State/Dark Government”, etc….ANYONE but himself.

Ultimately his “downfall” will not be any outside influence or vote…but the man himself.

The question then becomes how many does he take down with him.

Nope, I totally get you.

My counterpoint would be Trump was defeated in the popular vote by HRC. To assume only Trump will defeat Trump is to assume he’s unbeatable save for himself. He had none of the MANY glaring problems he has today when he lost the popular vote to the single most hated Dem POTUS candidate of my lifetime.

If he was getting beat by HRC of all people in 2016, imagine what comes in 2020.

Unfortunately unless you amend the constitution the less populated states and DC still get at least 3 electoral college votes.

It’s not the behaviours of the pres that will matter. It’s the economy. If Red state voters are doing better by the end of Trumps term he will win re-election. Not that the president controls the entire economy, but they take credit when things go well. You have to remember most people aren’t that far into this political stuff. If you’re a factory worker and you didn’t have a job in 2016, but you do in 2020… Do you give two shits about Trump’ s tweets or golf game?

That tax plan where they are going to disallow deductions for state/local taxes… that’s designed specifically to punish blue states and reward red ones. If passed, populations will shift.

electorl

pfury:

This may seem like a “duh” question…but here me out.

Will all of this “anger/animosity” against Trump translate into actual Votes?

Folk have to turn out and VOTE…and right now, Trump has galvanized a base that will do just that.

(Maybe my “problem” is that I’m not surrounded by enough Liberals in my everyday Life? Maybe!)

I think (and I could be off) that one advantage for Trump is the Trump fatigue factor in terms of his craziness. We are so used to seeing outlandish statements, comments, etc that it just seems like second nature. Early on I would see a headline that he said something and click on it because it sounded like it had to be fake. Now I see a headline with something crazy and it doesn’t even register with me. It’s just become “of course he said that.”

Trump is so ridiculous you forget the true lunacy and frequency of his crazy comments because you don’t put thought into them anymore. He’s like the crazy uncle. “Oh don’t mind him, that’s just the way President Trump’s always been.”

My sense is that, at this point, Trump has galvanized more people to vote against him than for him. (Assuming the Dems don’t do something fatally stupid like run a candidate as polarizing as HRC again.)

Which I get. But anyone that doesn’t see the VERY STRONG correlation between winning the popular vote and winning the election is blind. Couple in that SCOTUS is FINALLY looking at retardlican gerrymandering and we might have a shift towards legitimate elections in 2020.

Does that mean he also eats the shit when the growth slows down?

It did in 2016 when the most hated Dem candidate of my lifetime pulled more votes.

Pointless, planned, and expensive
