I totally understand why it’s a business, and why its a necessity. Just giving the reasons that most of my generation thinks so poorly of insurance as a whole. It’s right up there with paying into social security when the odds of us collecting it eventually is wishy washy at best.
I don’t understand. Nothing has changed about the essential manner in which insurance functions. Given this, why would your generation have a particularly jaundiced view of it?
Lobbying and political corruption on behalf of insurance companies has ramped up in my lifetime alone, only in greater magnitude if we were to look at yours. On top of that, the digital age has been able to put a spot light on exactly what insurance companies are capable of, as well as what they’ve done. The rising cost of healthcare/auto/life/etc, as well as increased premiums (cost) that my generation will spend the next X years dealing with can be attributed, in part, to the overpowerment of these insurance companies.
I’m of the opinion that if the access to knowledge was the same 40 years ago as it is today, insurance companies never would have grown to the behemoth level they are at today, and would have had no choice but to reign in many of the business practices that gave my generation such distaste for them.
Ignorance is (was) bliss.
I don’t know if that’s true, although I agree that our ability to ‘see the sausage getting made’ is probably greater now than ever before.
Whether or not it’s quantifiably true in an apples to apples sense doesn’t really matter here. My generation has spent the majority of its life having a much better understanding of the magnitude of things like ISPs, Insurance companies, Wall Street companies, big banks, etc than prior generations.
People call my generation “jaded,” “entitled,” and all manner of such nonsense. In reality, we’re simply FAR more informed than previous generations at our points in their lives.
