One other thing - the paragon of conservatism was once the Upright Man, honorable in his life’s pursuits, and that pertained to his business practices just as much as his family, etc.
Trump shamelessly ignoring conflicts of interest that are resulting from his public duties - conservatives? Crickets chirping.
Also, I’m old enough to remember when a person enriching themselves through the means and agency of their position in government was vile Establishment practices and such a person was the enemy of The People (see the Clinton Foundation).
Trump doing it, and paving the way for his family to will be involved in it? Crickets chirping.
He may have looked over her pending investigations and realized there’s enough there that a special prosecutor would be unnecessary. We don’t know, we will have to wait and find out how things pan out.
I believe he might be more shrewd than you are willing to give credit for @thunderbolt23.
His appointments have a dichotomous nature between rewarding loyalists and trying to woo others who criticized him to the point of derailment, in favor of electing Clinton. My guess is to become their boss, rather than give them an opposition platform.
That said, I am against Romney 100% more than any other candidate.
What lesson is to be learned? Trump is galloping forward on some very un-conservative policies and even breaking campaign pledges on them, but conservatives are quiet as church mice over them…
…when had a president-elect Clinton committed to the same course, “conservatives” would have been beside themselves with outrage.
Imagine what would have been said by “conservatives” (even here in this forum) had a president-elect Clinton said she’d not only keep the Clinton Foundation in tact but would double down on its practices, explaining “presidents can’t have conflicts of interest.”
I’m not talking about any of that - I’m talking about his clear departure from campaign promises and going headlong into un-conservative policies, and the same conservatives that would rail against Hillary for the same choices are silent now.
Give him at least 100 days in office at the very least before we start declaring him back tracking on his promises. Nothing has really happened to this point
But his direct promise was to appoint a special prosecutor to do just that.
““If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation,” Trump said. “Because there have never been so many lies, so much deception. And we’re going to have a special prosecutor.””
Believe me, dude. I am doing backflips giving him the benefit of the doubt. But without holding his feet to the fire over fairly unequivocal statements of intent, I cannot possibly see him meeting the expectations that got him elected.
If he doesn’t apply a special prosecutor to her investigations but she is eventually convicted based on the 3 outstanding investigation conclusions is that not good enough? or will you be upset that he didn’t follow through on his promise of a special prosecutor?
My point is let’s wait for the conclusion of her investigations rather than focus on the specific promise of a special prosecutor because that’s what is relevant
That would be the FBI fulfilling his promise, rather than him. I’d hardly hold it against him if it didn’t come via his special prosecutor, but I certainly wouldn’t accredit him with the result either.
Hooray for President Elect Trump calling out the dishonest media as he did repeatedly during his campaign. It’s no secret that republican candidates especially at the Presidential level have been getting the short end of the stick for a very long time. Now that they have been proven to be dishonest by wikileaks and how they acted when their queen lost it’s time for all but ardent partisan left wing democrats to admit what has been going on.
