Once the 55+ crowd dies you instantly have enough people to elect a POTUS purely on stopping this. Trying to convince millions of Americans that they need to pay into a system for which we never plan on paying them would shock even the leftist of Dems.
Agreed. That being said, no way you convince anyone of this. People of my generation are already peeved with the previous generations economic fuckups, no way they foot the bill for it at this extreme of a level.
Hue. Also as a side note, I think this is one of the reasons we’ll probably never see a fiscally conservative POTUS again. It’s just not sexy. And in this country of MeMeMe people, you’ll always be able to drum up a frenzy by telling people you’ll temporarily better their lives than you will telling them you want the system fixed over the course of 30 years.
RIP Fiscal conservatism
Edit: sider note, Imo the best (plausible) way to combat the budget in the short term is to get rid of corporate welfare, and let the economy adjust before making further monumental decisions.
Oh don’t think that I think the debt is anything less than a certain death, if not brought into control.
In fact, I am in favor of a pyramid expenditure reduction (ex 2%, 4%, … 10%, 8%…).
But these are still legislative functions that Trump couldn’t convince the public to accept or the Congress to enact if he walked into court, pleaded guilty to every charge ever, and begged for the death penalty.
Your point is valid. Always remember there is a huge gap between breaking the law and getting arrested/charged. Especially for the political class. I predict neither one will ever end up in jail.
Yeah I get that. I just think it’s much more realistic in terms of cutting frivolous spending that a politician is actually willing to run on. I’m also thinking more about the lower tax rate on capital gains and oil subs
I’d also like to see our Defense budget cut in half, but that’s a complete pipe dream.
And they didn’t get Reagan. That’s the thing. What do leftists expect we’re going to get out of Trump/Russia investigations? The absolute best case scenario for leftists is Pence as president.
I always laughed when people wanted to look into Eric Holder and Obama for Fast and Furious. “Why so we can have Biden?”
Probably not right now, but you should know that approval ratings fluctuate with the news cycles naturally anyways, that is the way of things for all politicians–that doesn’t mean their reputation is permanently different now than back 1.5 years, or even significantly so (the mob has a short memory). Particularly during elections. You don’t think Bill is viewed more favorably in the 2000s than he was during the Monica scandal? Of course he is. Because he was beaten to a bloody pulp during the scandal and public opinion showed that. He recovered nicely.
Oh my gosh Gainz Fast and Furious, The IRS Lois Lerner/Obama Scandal, Benghazi, NSA spying on Americans…Ah…no big deal the press was busy sticking their collective noses up the back side of Barack. They had no time for investigative journalism.
I am just thankful that now that Obama is gone and they’ve cleaned the crap off their noses that they have time to investigate Donald Trump. Hopefully the left will get their way and impeach him. Then we have President Pence…impeach him too? President Ryan? Oh well…as long as they keep disrupting the republican administration then things won’t get done. Oops…they’re getting done anyway. Oh well…good try by the left kudos to them!
My gosh if we only had that stalwart Barack Obama back then everything would be so nice and pleasant.
My question was more geared because he said there’s no change in the Clinton’s reputation due to this election. I find that statement fundamentally false in every way imaginable.
He didn’t lose a POTUS election in the midst of an FBI investigation to Donald Trump while being caught working with the DNC to sabotage a same party candidate. I don’t see a world where Hillary recovers period. Especially given the number of years she has left to work with.
I think he is considering this from a long term view rather than a short term change, which is why I said what I did. You may be right, but I think only time will tell.
True, but we also had Whitewater and a million other Clinton scandals over the past 30 years. I don’t know that this is any worse in the public’s eye (optics wise) than any of those others.
It looks like the debt always spikes at the high points of the United States’s history. Looks like we’re on our way to a victory over a super-duper villain.
(Didn’t get the post quoted correctly, apparently. This is in response to the debt graph usmc posted.)
