Bingo. The Chinese are the only true threat. One needs an actual strong economy for world domination.
Youse hopes the Trumpians are colluding with the Russians…

Good job. Falling on your words, half rescued by Aragorn, and immediately start attacking the guy who asked you to clarify. Top notch work.
As much as I want to pile on, the “pull money from the trust whenever I want” thing seems pretty standard (from my basic understanding) isn’t it?
Spicer getting shit on is always a treat though. I look forward to SNL.
It’s supposed to create a barrier between the POTUS and potential conflicts of interest (which we know there are hundreds). That’s why it should have been a blind trust like was discussed during the primary.
100% agreed about the blind trust. Personally I don’t think someone with an empire that large who always has to be involved ever had a chance of really going with a blind trust.
Personally, best case for me was that it wasn’t managed by his kids to at least provide the illusion of objectivity. Since he’s made basically no effort to stay objective, I seem to find myself not caring as much about him pulling out money.
At least with low expectations I had a lower chance of being let down
Yeah but that is standard practice. There’s no law requiring it. There are Trump hotels in dozens of foreign countries. It’s a conflict of interest if he keeps any ownership in his hotels at all, blind trust or not.
Not entirely sure. Out right voting for sharia type policy? Probably not on the ballot. The are polls that suggest a majority of American Muslims support Sharia policy in the U.S to some degree.
I liked Milton Freidman’s plan. In an interview in the late 90’s he said “pay out what everyone is owed and close the books.”

The ProPublica rage tweets were probably the best shellacking I’ve seen since the midterms…two thumbs up, would cheer.
Team Trump looking at a VAT or a carbon tax as support for his “border adjustment” tax craters?
A VAT tax, wonderful…
“Let’s simplify the tax code”
“Let’s use a VAT tax”
Pick one. Side note @anon50325502 , VAT tax usually comes with the removal of sales tax yes? Or am I thinking of something else?
A VAT and a sales tax are very different, but I think that most countries that use a VAT do not have a sales tax. I’m not sure if, historically, a VAT has been used to replace a sales tax or not.
In the US I think we would still have state sales tax on top of any federal VAT tax, though (imo). Unless the Trump plan (which I guess is on the backburner) is to institute a nationwide VAT tax standard (collected at the state level) like the EU. Our system of Federalism and the EU’s member state setup are so different I’m not sure how a VAT would even work here.
Theoretical question. Would a VAT tax apply to manufacturing in China on behalf of American companies, or would it only be applied when they sell it within the states?
Not specifically a US/China Q, but more of a VAT tax country vs outsource country.
My understanding is that it would depend on what portions of the process occur within the United States. Anything that happens in China could be subject to a tariff (which is a tax), though. I suppose the VAT could be written in such a way as to consider the import stage as a Value Added stage. It’s not really, imo, and the result I think would be similar to that of a tariff.
However, when say Ford receives X, Y, & Z parts from Mexico and they’re assembled in Detroit that’s when the VAT would apply.
I’m only vaguely familiar with the VAT because it’s not a reality in the US so there are a lot of things I don’t know about how it would be implemented here.
VAT is a regressive tax, isn’t it? If so, I doubt this would go over well with the public.
From my understanding it’s basically a tax any time you make a profit. Or rather it’s a margin % on goods that the govt gets to keep.
edit: God bless wiki

Just saw that Bannon lost his seat on the National Security Council, any insight from folks in here?
Or rather it’s a margin % on goods that the govt gets to keep
Yes, and it’s hated by all who are subject to it, trust me.
That’s why goverments usually introduce variable rates as well as zero VAT for specific types of products to make VAT somewhat more palatable to the general public (child care products, medicines, basic foodstuffs etc.)
