Trump: The First 100 Days

That doesn’t surprise me. The thing is, once you cede control of something to the government you never get it back. So this push for charter schools and vouchers isn’t going to work. You cannot shove the free market in to a government program. Especially in a poor state like Michigan. It might have worked better in Texas. Nevertheless, best thing to do with schools is to make them as good as you can, not create competition for student attendance. I don’t mind having a federal measure, but I think the local communities, then the counties, then the states have the most say in a school system. What works in Portland may not work in Orlando…

I’m particularly interested in the dynamic between those two going forward.

I thought DeVos was just there to wind this department down, and help it transition back to a small agency.

One statement she has been consistent on is to have more local control/decision making on the parts of schools as opposed to the, “One size fits all” approach. A large risk, in my mind, with creating the competition for student attendance is that the schools turn into pretty cool places to hang out, tests aren’t too hard, stress levels are low, all of this turns into high approval ratings from the parents. “Yeah my kid has been great! They’re hardly stressed out, seem to really like their teachers, never has homework so they MUST be more on task.”

That appears to be from early last year I think it was resolved already. Although they still have separate entrances for single men and families, like we do our restrooms so it can’t be that bad right?

I hope that his opinions are given the weight they deserve and that he has earned whether or not they are in agreement.

That picture, among other things, says more about the way we’ve been handling the Saudis than virtually any words you can find in print.

I’d love to see some shit like that go up ANYWHERE here in the US.

Obama liked to trot out that “he got Bin Laden”, which is bullshit at several levels, but leaves out that he was in Pakistan within spitting distance of a national police barracks.

Sounds a lot like gun control laws to me. If we can just make scary “assault” rifles illegal here then no one will get hurt by them. Right…

Yes of course, but I was simply giving you an insight into how the man most likely still thinks.

Yeah, I wouldn’t put much faith in what we’ve heard publicly. When it comes to Trump there is an instant “get him” attitude that is still too prevelant to put much stock in what we are told publicly.

He doesn’t have to and you know that.

If true I agree.

She’s a great pick for Secretary of Education.

The left hates her because she is pro Charter Schools. Can’t buck the powerful teachers unions right? Ho hum what else is new?

And he will announce for nomination a conservative as I predicted.

She may be. I think that the teachers unions are more powerful than any office though, so I wouldn’t expect much change. If funds are allocated in a way that diverts from their pockets, it’s gonna get really ugly.

Its all about the children though, right?

With so many education issues dealt with on the State and Local level…I still don’t understand what the Department of Education is for.

I want to see the guy from Pittsburgh get it. We haven’t won a super bowl in a while and need something to throw a big party about.

Fuck yourself.

Signed, bitter Eagles fan living in Pittsburgh.

If you had to choose between overly strict borders vs overly loose ones, I’d choose overtly strict every time.

The way the government manages the border, it seems like those are the only two choices.

Resolved? Well, that picture is from last year when the gender separation walls were being renovated so women weren’t allowed in.

Let that sink in. Gender separation walls. I’d say that is infinitely worse that fucking restrooms.

You have no idea how much Saudi Arabia is fucked up - the entire society is built around making life a living hell for women, ostensibly to protect them from everything decadent.

I have a huge issue with this picture below. Throughout the Middle East courageous women are beaten, abused and imprisoned for refusing to wear the hijab.

A female friend of mine from Turkey recently stated to me matter-of-factly that if hijab becomes mandatory in Turkey (increasingly likely every day) and if she’ll be unable to emigrate to a Western country she’s ready to commit suicide.

And now the symbol of female oppression suddenly became a feminist prop? Fuck that. Fight Trump and his creepy antisemitic consigliere but not by co opting the symbol of female opression.

Yes, that’s a great comparison. This travel bun has nothing to do with counter terrorism and more with political control of the population. It creates uncertainty and creeping doubt and people are relieved if the more outrageous aspects are struck down.

What the hell is that?

I don’t do the facebook thing and don’t know what the cool kids are complaining about a whole lot, so I haven’t seen this.
