Is there anyone that can possibly try to defend the nomination of Betsy DeVos for Dept. of Education?

He said it, several times. But he did not mean he was a Leninist in the sense of being a communist, rather, he was referring to Lenin’s desire to sow political chaos and destroy the existing government. In fairness, he has since disavowed that position.

Whats so bad about choosing a fiction writer with no political office or foreign policy experience?

Do you not recall the creation of the Tea Party? The outcry from the right during the obama years was often and frequent and frequently ineffective, save for mid election cycles. But they didn’t move obama’s needle, one iota.

Right winger’s and left winger’s protest differently. The left get together, scream and break shit. The right organizes movements that largely do not gain much traction. Actually, the Tea Party was a surprise in how big it got, but it lost steam when the R’s took back the house in 2010 and stayed a fledgling movement.

And if the policies coming from the executive are what the right want, why the hell would they protest?

Who is in the cabinet is not necessarily the president’s confidant. Frequently, Obama ignored the voices in his own inner circle as Leon Panetta’s post CIA interviews revealed.

Do you really want to talk about her “spooky” Blackwater/FRC connections that badly?

She’s concerned about bears around children. Seems like a safe stance on children’s safety, ha!

Compared to choosing the soi-disant Leninist who wants to “destroy the state,” nothing at all.

Apparently not. I guess when you want someone to shape your narrative you pick a writer.

Can’t blame them, really. My wife was a litt and theater major, and she’s great with words. The pictures she can paint with words are just amazing.

She don’t even use bigly.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, assuming it is, but to clarify I’m talking about her extreme lack of any experience what-so-ever in the field of education.

Lol! I think I’d rather have a bear in charge of the dept. of Education than her.

That’s a more than fair point haha. Her lack of experience in anything resembling an over-sight position or basic workings of education are frightening. It looks (at this time, due to lack of credentials) to be a place at the table for her that was bought and paid for. Her push for charter schools in Michigan and their test records are absolutely terrifying, Detroit especially has been absolutely hammered, her platform of school choice and free market schools driving up the standards and quality has unequivocally failed in the state of Michigan.

Realistically, how many conservative names can you come up with off of the top of your head that have any depth of experience nationally in education administration?

I have none.

Fair of you to point this out. But this is one of those things one doesn’t get to disavow. He wasn’t some college kid talking to the school newspaper after a particularly fiery lecture from that lovable radical professor. He was the grown, established shitbag he remains today.

And much more importantly, his behavior has accorded well with the quotation. Although it would short-change the dimensions of his ambition for us to ignore the fact that he appears far more practically interested than Lenin was in the internationalist utopia at the end of the rainbow:

In other words – and unlike the NYT – she writes good?

Everybody’s conflating the travel ban with the refugee issues. Those are two separate issues.

If the travel ban was designed to address the terrorist threat, the first on the list should have been Saudis, Pakistanis and UK citizens of Pakistani descent.

But this travel ban is useless and idiotic and only creates uncertainty. Do you seriously think “bad dudes” will be thwarted by this?

For what it’s worth, the protesters are missing the point by conflating this with the question of refugees. For example, I would really love if Starbucks reined in their righteous anger and addressed this in their Saudi franchise first:

Better than good. More like gooder. I don’t know if you can get any better than that.
