Nah. We both know the definitions just fine (and I suspect these semantics prob bore both of us, as well)
So you are going to stand by your claim that Trump was convicted. Got it.
Still with this? Really?
My point was that the entire impeachment process was decidedly NOT the purely partisan show that conservative media would have their audience believe, neither then nor now.
Furthermore, that only Sen. Romney felt confident enough (amongst his constituents) to make this crystal clear to the American public ably captures the flaws in our current (borderline ridiculous) status quo.
He was convicted in the house but only one gop senator in the senate had half a spine to even listen to all the evidence and vote for conviction. So he goes down in history just like bill clinton as being impeached in the house. That stands forever.
No worries though as I am very confident that he will be evicted from the peoples house come 1/20/21 and a couple of NE DAās have some special handcuffs waiting on him.
For the sake of precision:
- impeached in the House, (fully partisanly because only 2-year Rep. terms)
- all of two GOP Senators voted to allow witnesses (less partisanly because 6-yr Senate terms)
- all of one GOP Senators voted to convict + remove (ie. bipartisan judgment)
- NY State DA + SDNY (federal) appear to have charges on deck (as they rightly should for any lawless individual(s))
Better tell Kamala Harrisā husband that one ![]()
MAGA thinks that itās okay if old people die from coronavirus, to keep the economy open (āthe cure canāt be worse than the diseaseā). AKA herd immunity, which means hundreds of thousands more deaths (and no proof that immunity is ever reached, since there are more than one strain of virus).
Well excuse me, but isnāt this the definition of ādeath panelsā that Sarah Palin warned you about? Bureaucrats in Washington DC will decide that grandma is expendable, because keeping her alive and healthy is too expensive for our economy?
What gets me is the people who are anti-mask and anti-social distancing, but also want to open up the economy, who donāt understand that those things are absolutely connected. We could open up everything today, with no more distancing rules, and businesses would be failing just the same or even harder than they are now, because customers will not come back 100% until the virus is under control, and most businesses cannot succeed at a reduced capacity. Profit margins are too thin to succeed in an environment where customers are afraid that they might get sick.
Grandma can stay home while I go to work.
No. Not at all.
Looks like the time is getting near for trump to put in a change of address, in other words Iām queing up the fat lady to sing.
Iām sure those NE prosecutors getting their ducks in a row for 1/20/21.
First of all, shutting things down and putting restrictions in place to stop the spread of the virus is not without consequence and is itself causing many deaths. Second, if there is no proof of immunity then what are we waiting for? That means no vaccine will work either. You canāt put life on hold forever.
From what Iām seeing, Iām speculating that it also depends on how compliant people in various countries are to lockdowns in the first place and rules pertaining to social distancing and mask wearing. Itās probably a cultural issue. Asians like Koreans, Japanese, Singaporeans, Vietnamese Hong Kongers, China people etc are generally brought up to listen to any form of authority so it works here without the authorities having to resort to extreme measures to enforce the law.
This is just speculation after discussing with my US expat friends IRL and no offense is intended since I donāt fully understand Western culture. Things are almost back to normal here other than mandatory mask wearing although I try to get my guys to work from home as much as possible.
New Zealand locked down reeeaaally early so we canāt really compare them to other countries IMO.
Hereās the thing, looking at Ontario the cases are going up and up but deaths are not. Also we had less ācasesā before masks were made mandatory, so it really does give the impression that they are of little use.
Scroll down the page here to see graphs for deaths and ācasesā:
Here is the next problem:
the mutated virus had been found to weaken the bodyās ability to form antibodies, potentially making the current vaccines under development for Covid-19 ineffective.
At some point you just have to accept that there are risks in life and keep moving. This virus doesnāt even produce symptoms in around 86% of people and the death rate is well below 1%, itās not worth ruining the world over this. Of course there are other people like the World Economic Forum who see this as a great opportunity to reshape the world the way they want it, so you have to wonder what is really going on.
I think itās probably due to more testing. The fact is this virus can be controlled with minimal measures as long as cases are brought down and people are compliant with social distancing guidelines and mask wearing. The results Iāve seen in Asia speak for themselves.
The government must be prepared to quickly isolate hotspots with mass viral outbreaks like China does, though, given the size of your country. But Iām not sure you guys will accept it.
Iām waiting for more data at the moment.
True. Like I said, itās a cultural thing and it depends on your values like liberty and all that we donāt have as much of. Itās all about trade offs. Also, lots of Asians live with, or in close proximity to their parents and grandparents so weāre afraid weāll pass it to them.
In the end itās up individual countries to make their own decisions and Iām not judging anyone on that unless their governments do really stupid, moronic shit.
That is part of the reason for the increase in the number of ācasesā, but in the last month or so the number of tests has remained around the same while the dreaded ācasesā keep going up and up.
If different measures had been taken right at the beginning then the virus could have been stopped long ago. Our stupid government refused to ban international travel, including flights from China, until it was much too late. Also there was a shortage of masks and PPE in general and no N95s, and no other measures to stop the spread. There were scenes like the Toronto airport with thousands of people crammed in the arrivals area, a couple days later it turned out that a customs officer was sick with COVID. Potentially thousands of people would have been infected there alone.
Trying to stop it now doesnāt look like itās about to work, and the cost is far too high. The funny thing is that at the beginning of the pandemic all we had was the Chinese data and the Canadian government said that they expected 60-70% of people to eventually be infected. The focus was on preventing hospitals from overflowing, and that never even happened. Next the goalposts shifted to stopping the spread at all costs, and while the costs are continuing to climb there is no stopping the virus now.
This doesnāt make a lot of sense. It would be like saying the US had no one wearing masks in 2019 and no cases of coronavirus and then in 2020 started wearing masks and had cases of coronavirus.
Thatās about as spurious of a correlation as you can have. We might not have good studies that show how effective masks are by percentage and they arenāt going to be 100% successful but the vast majority of data suggests wearing them prevents spread. Also masks do less good if people donāt wear them correctly which is a huge problem in my area (although most people here donāt wear them because Covid hoax I guess).
Doesnāt seem like they help much is ignoring the data though. And saying well cases were higher before is ignoring the multitude of other facts for why that is.
Oh our government did plenty of stupid shit. There is a shortage of workers in many industries due to their bullshit, shutting down businesses and giving away piles of money. Minimum wage in Ontario is $14/hour, if you work 40 hours that is $560 before tax. If you donāt work, or donāt work much, then the government will give you $500 a week since March. There is also nothing forcing people to go back to work if they are able to. This emergency benefit scheme was supposed to be sorted out in the summer but because our PM was trying to avoid being investigated in a financial scandal he shut down parliament and continued with the same bullshit.
Agreed. If you recall I was already telling people the majority of imported cases to my country were from Britain and parts of Europe in Feb even though people from China make up the bulk of travelers entering the country.
If you have a really strict, New Zealand kind of lockdown, I think it can. But it would depend on compliance. After that, you have to stick to social distancing rules and mask wearing. This is what we did here and in many parts of Asia. Life is almost back to normal and no one even bothers to read about COVID in the news anymore.
