That’s the thing. If we assume this guy wasn’t an experienced marksman, then that is a frighteningly close call. If he could do that, what would a better shooter have done?

Honestly that rifle did all the work for you. Vortex optics, recoil nonexistent, trigger light as a feather. I mostly worked on my breathing patters… shooting between heart beats like Marines do.
I don’t know if the shooter had optics ?
For reference 1 MOA is equal to 1/60th of 1 degree

The argument would be he could win that race against non professional drivers using the same vehicle he is using.

I’m not familiar with degree. I grew up hunting in Texas, worked at a gun range through high school, hobby shoot and have done some competitive stuff and it’s all minute of angle.
A buddy of mine is retired special forces and was a sniper and he’s been teaching me his military stuff. It’s much more extensive.
In the scenario with Trump, there was a likely 3.75” room for error at distance from the rifle used. And that would be in perfect testing conditions.
So even if the guy had perfect aim and pulled off the perfect shot with controlled breathing, between wind et cetera, he had half a face of error to contend with. And he clipped an ear.
It is just my assumption that he intended on a head shot, did aim at trumps nose and between Trump turning his head and the MOA rating inherent to off the shelf AR’s clipped an ear. It very well could’ve landed worse, and in a five shot group on a stationary target from a near perfect shooter one or more would have. Statistically. Trump was very lucky.

I like you too because you don’t turn into a baby like some posters do. I wasn’t trying to make this a heated argument. I would prefer to think of this as a discussion. Like I said, it’s been a while since I’ve fired a rifle. We didn’t really use MOA, we used clicks, as Marine said and because I didn’t wear my glasses shooting, I would just adjust my aim based on where the rounds landed. It doesn’t make sense and I should have been a much worse shot than I was. I should have been worse with a pistol but I always qualified expert with one. The hardest was qualifying with the m249. I really miss shooting.

The Secret Service have a very difficult job. Still, they are going to attract some criticism on this one. The use of political violence is appalling, and I wish Trump a speedy recovery.

I am familiar with Carlos. Guys who can read the curvature of the earth as part of their ballistics calculations are pretty incredible. This is what I want to learn.
I can hit 800-1,000 yards all day, recently bought an accurized 300prc to get out to 1,400-1,600 and will probably either go with a 454 cheytac or 50bmg after I master that.
It’s a whole new game than I’m used too. Basically launching missiles manually.
To me, the biggest question is why nobody pulled Trump off the stage. Maybe you don’t want to take a shot until you know the guy’s intentions and maybe you can’t engage him quickly enough. But you can certainly get Trump down and out of the line of sight within 2 seconds. Not doing that seems like a huge error in either operational coordination or judgment.
