If I had to guess, someone is demanding for the trans stuff to be included to vote for it, including the parental approval part. I’d rather see it banned outright for all minors, but it is a step in the right direction.
In Maine we have teachers and school counselors guiding children into this decision, with policies in place to specifically NOT inform parents if the child communicates that there is some lack of trust at home.

We used to have an elector number/card which was obviously attributted only to citizens.

We’re done with that now because our national ID is a “citizen’s card” so obviously only citizens can have it. When you present your ID they have your name in a database.
It’s something that is so simple that I’m quite sure.the US have the means to implement a system like that, or similar.
What they did here was to make it much easier to get citizenship (even more for former colonials and sephardic jews, as reparation of sorts).

Removing the requirement for parental consent would be an extreme stance if Democrats were to ever regain control. If they were to try it, it would cost them. They would probably press elsewhere.
So allowing it, but only with parental consent is much more likely to stick for the rest of forever. More likely to stop the swing. If it were banned completely for all minors now, it might be a bigger issue than ever 10 years from now.

To me it’s an ideological test that they fail. Can a minor consent? No. It’d be like saying a minor can do porn, with the written consent of their parent.
