I have not been following UK much for the past few years. The country has been spiraling down for a while now.
Germany has by far strictest hate speech laws in Europe. They go as far as 1950s. The most recent addition does not seem to work well, and has caused a shit ton of criticism.

Vance saying that this causes strain to whole European relations sounds hyperbolic, since US has allies who really oppress their citizens. Hungary and Turkey fir example.

This all depends on whether you consider free speech, actual free speech as it exists in America, to be a human right. I do. Many Europeans do not.
Like it or not, Americans are back in charge of America, and free speech is our First Amendment in our Bill of Rights. It is not up for compromise here, and it shouldn’t be up for compromise anywhere.
Restricting speech is not now and has never been about stopping imagined bad outcomes from someone saying the wrong words. It is now and always has been an instrument of oppression.

@SepCalla Sorry, Zecarlo has been trolling me for a decade or so now, and is often distracting. He seems to take joy in anonymously trolling lifters.
I fully expect the Trump administration to put the same pressure on Turkey. I’m unsure if they and Hungary were in attendance at the Munich conference where he spoke. I am seeing a high degree of consistency between rhetoric and action in 2025, and I hope it continues.
I really, really like Vance. He is actually quite typical of many MAGA republicans in his age bracket. The anti-Trump propaganda was much more effective when Trump ran for his first term, and Vance fell for it, changing his opinion like many have.
I had my doubts at the time, too. I reluctantly voted for Trump in 2016. I confidently voted for him in 2020.
In 2024 I would have crawled through broken glass to cast my vote for Trump, but luckily it only took about 10 minutes.
