As long as DOGE is operating in good faith…lets hope so… I know there will be missteps and errors…BUT the government is a steaming pile of shit that needs heavy scrutiny

I would agree but given the people running it have their own agenda, and this isn’t opinion but fact as the president, any president, obviously has one and Musk has one as well, I am skeptical of it being evenhanded in its approach.
And for Musk to tell a lie, or to use Obama speak, mis-speak about condoms is concerning. He’s supposed to be on the inside with his team of computer geniuses and he didn’t know the condom story was false? Either he is a liar who is walking it back because he got caught or he isn’t as thorough as we expected him to be.
And the irony is that we expect government to police itself. These people will not take money out of their own pockets. DOGE should have, if it had the power, audited every single Congressman, Senator and judge for starters. Then went on to every lobbyist who lurks around DC.
She brought up a good point about firing government employees in large numbers, something I don’t like as they are people with families to feed and any waste and corruption is because of people above their pay grade. She also brought up military spending which is a bottomless money pit and has been since I was a kid hearing about 400 dollar hammers and toilet seats.
But they always have to let loose their TDS demons and look foolish.
I’m not too suspicious of Musk or Trump really. Why… because they’re beyond wealthy and I do think they have good intentions. But we shall see

Just out of curiosity: DOGE is responsible to the administration? Is there any superviser over DOGE outside of Trump’s government?
Money isn’t everything. If they aren’t in it for the money, then it’s something else.
DOGE was a re-naming of The United States Digital Service, authorized under Barack Obama in 2014 and funded by Congress since. There is no supervisor or direct oversight from a non-government person, unless you count Elon Musk as that since he’s not getting paid a government salary.
They have had the authority to examine government databases at the table level the entire time. Sometime during Biden’s term, Trump lawyers likely realized what they can actually do with this authority.
It is a bit sneaky in that NOBODY expected the authority granted in 2014 to be used this way, but they still granted the authority to the executive branch.
DOGE has held up in court, so far.
What DOGE is doing is the ONLY way to uncover the things they are uncovering. As someone who held a manger role in a State of Maine systems implementation project, it is difficult to describe how poorly government ERP systems are set up.
I believe it was by design, as to obfuscate corruption and incompetence.
Trying to get answers from higher level employees in Maine DAFS (Department of Administrative and Financial Services, an executive branch agency) was like trying to get an explanation from a toddler about why there are no more cookies left in the jar.
Musk has no actual authority. He is an advisor to the President. Any actions taken by DOGE are ultimately authorized by the President, who was granted this authority by Congress.
It all seems perfectly within the purview of the executive branch, and I’m thrilled with everything it has accomplished. Many people will need to find a way to make money that involves people giving it to them voluntarily, instead of participating in the massive grift that is unraveling in front of our eyes.
McMahon is utterly unqualified. She has a degree in French. She is a grifter.
She needs to get the job before she can know what her job will be.

One other clarification, DOGE was authorized BY CONGRESS under Obama’s administration, not created by the President.
In other words, functioning separation of powers and normal government processes granted this authority to the Executive branch.
It is also worthwhile to mention that NOBODY expected Donald Trump to have even the slightest chance in hell at becoming President in 2014. The grift was thought to be permanently entrenched in 2014.
In other words, they believed only insiders would ever control the executive. It wasn’t thought possible for a non approved candidate to ever win.
Obama and comedians were still laughing at the idea of Trump as president in 2014. None of them are laughing now. They are panicking.
