The problem for Americans is facing reality. A hillbilly can go to Europe and talk about how they don’t defend their values and are too tolerant and woke. OK. Meanwhile, in France, they ban the hijab because it is seen as contradictory to their values. I guess we Americans should applaud that but… in the US we would never do that because
we are supposed to tolerate all religious beliefs and as long as they don’t violate any laws, the expression of those beliefs. The question is, how do you tolerate beliefs that are contradictory, maybe even threatening to, your current values and culture?
Let’s keep in mind that there are those in political office who want certain ideas to not be taught in colleges, such as intersectionality, CRT and DEI. Which means that even in the US we see censorship as an option with regard to beliefs we see as dangerous and damaging. So where do tolerance and freedom end and censorship begins? Where is that line? Should we dig up McCarthy and ask him?
These topics are discussed over daily in several European countries without any arrests.

These examples aren’t from Europe thought.
There will be always individual cases who are bordering country’s freedom of speech laws, and these cases will spark the important discussion about the topi.
I think I’ll repeat myself, but:
-there are some cases where laws don’t really work as intended currently. I think Germany’s new law will not work very well. Just the lack of resources.
- still, freedom of speech is not generally under threat in Europe (except in Hungary).
I can’t pretend to know all of what happens in Europe, but it appears quite grim to me. I watched numerous videos of arrests being made for non-violent political speech. That’s simply not a grey area for me at all, or most Americans. What I watched on the videos is deeply troubling to me.
What is happening in the UK is even more disturbing, even if zecarlo doesn’t believe it is a REAL European country.
