This is what it takes to be truly Liberal. I’ll bet even the most left-wing poster here is not THIS liberal.

Well, maybe shamu(s).

  1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

  2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

  3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. Nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iran or Chinese and North Korean communists.

  4. You have to believe that there was no art before federal funding.

  5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical changes in the earth’s climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV’s.

  6. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

  7. You have to believe that the same teacher who can’t teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

  8. You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature, but PETA activists do.

  9. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

  10. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make “The Passion of the Christ” for financial gain only.

  11. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

  12. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too >>high.

  13. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Edison.

  14. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

  15. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.

  16. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag queens and transvestites should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

To be truely liberal one has to believe in a philosphy that supports the freedom of thought–though, you may not agree with those thoughts. Conservatism seeks to maitain the status quo which historically is favored by the ruling class.

By this definition the US is a liberal country and this is why we love it.

Not quite. Standardized tests, in general, are not racist but they cannot be fairly graded becasue they don’t take the actual thought process of the test taker into account. Yes we also like diversity and prefer to work in an ethnically diverse environment.

  1. The NRA supports an outdated part of the constitution. Freedom and equality > having guns. If people weren’t so stupid these days, I’d support the NRA. But the reality is guns are much more easy to use than back when the constituion was made. Kids can get a hold of and use guns more easily, and parenting hasn’t exactly gotten better.

My friend has two rifles. Do I care? No. Because his father has taught him gun safety up the friggin wazoo, and he still went through the process of applying for a permit to own them.

  1. For war time, taxes ARE too low. We were willing to pay after 9/11, Bush didn’t let us. Thats why were now in some serious debt. His father did allow us to pay during the Gulf War and raised taxes even though he had promised not to. Thats why Bush Sr. > Bush Jr.

  4. Though technically true (socialism with Papa Smurf in charge seems to have worked quite nicely) communism is doomed to failure. So is capitalism. If communism is a giant middle class, what is pure capitalism but a bunch of rich and extremely poor? Neither work very well. A mixed leaning a bit heavily to the right seems to work best in larger nations, and a left lean seems to work just fine in small nations (notice how I said lean, not full on communism).

  5. Both should be Constitutionally protected in public. Neither should be funded or supported by the government in any financial way. Seriously, is it THAT fucking hard to say “Merry Christmas and a happy holidays”?
