Looking for TRT in the tampa bay area. I went to a urologist for ED and after a few consultations they started me on TRT. They put me on 1 ml injection once every 3 weeks. From what I’ve read this is a completely bizarre protocol, and I feel good for a few days after an injection, then dead and lifeless for a few days after that then i rebound to baseline. the i wait 2 weeks to go through the same thing again. I’d like to go to a TRT clinic, but none of them seem to take insurance. I’d go to an endocronologist but a lot of them dont’ prescribe TRT, and most likely wont’ for me because my labs arent terrible, but the symptoms are.
You just inadvertently discovered your ideal injection frequency, you stated after a few days of your injection that you felt terrible.
I experienced feeling different after 2.5 days, I inject every 2 days or EOD and experience no changes in how I feel.
i’m exactly the same, sunday night injection, monday and tuesday are ok, by weds afternoon the crash sets in. It sucks this doc is kind of retarded and working with them is like pulling teeth. Doc I don’t think this protocol is working. response: It takes 8-10 weeks to feel a significant change. Not it doesn’t. from what i’ve read, takes 8-10 weeks to feel full effects / all benefits, but not that long to feel a significant change. There are so many clinics around here, but I wish they took insurance; i’d rather not pay $150 a month if I don’t need to.
In my experience some of the best doctors are in private practice, economic brother, if a doctor has mad skills he can charge whatever he wants, an insurance doctor is someone else’s pawn who must do what he is told and work within the limited outdated guidelines, the insurance doctor has one arm tied behind his back.
You will never see a private practice hormone specialists regurgitating the 200mg once every 2 weeks, unless it’s one of these T-mills who needs a way to pay the nurses salaries by having you come in for the injection, the administration of the shot is how the nurses earn their salaries.
Private practice endo’s are on average a great deal more educated in hormones.
Thanks SL, appreciate the feedback. I definately would prefer a specialist, but I’ve read some that endos are very conservative with prescribing TRT, and if that’s the case probably wouldn’t treat me because total t is 480 and free is 11. so i’m within ‘healthy’ ranges from what i’ve seen, but have all the symptoms. The guy who is my main contact for the TRT is actually a nurse at the urologist. He’s helpful and responsive and seems smart and educated but from what i’ve read this trt and hormone business is a very delicate balance, not to mention the prostate and cardiac health risks if not property monitored. Is it common for people to do 200mg once every two weeks? does that work for anyone?
No every 2 week injection don’t work, a 12 year old study proves it doesn’t work. Insurance companies install roadblocks by setting the cut off point for TRT below 300 ng/dL, when you pay for TRT the cut off point is higher.
Go to figure 1 graph B, levels drop below optimal after 6 days.
12 year study shows why injections every 2 weeks doesn’t work.
they agreed to go to 200ml every two weeks (50 twice a week). I said I injected 50 on sunday night, by noon today I was dead. they said maybe we could try gel and see if that’s more consitent for you. from what i know gel is less consistent. they must be hitting their insurance road block.
It would be nice to know where that dosing puts your test level at trough. Do you know you SHBG level? Maybe you need a larger dose or every other day injections.
Your Dr said it takes 6 weeks. Well I think he is correct here. If you just started 50 2x a week you need to give it time. The testosterone will build and stabilize after 5-6 weeks. Unless you are one that requires a lot more than 100 mg.
You need to give it 6 weeks or more for any protocol change to see how it works.
Also I was reading your earlier post. Early on my Endo prescribed trt but said 200 mg e2 weeks. I started 100 mg every week. After a couple weeks I said can I try 100 a week he reluctantly agreed but I was doing that anyway. Then I went to 2x a week and he did not know. I’ve since switched to someone more knowledgeable. But as long as he is prescribing the test he doesn’t really need to know how often you inject.
Some Drs will go with you . So u can say hey I tried injecting 120 a week and I felt great. See if he ups dose. He already prescribed trt. It should be unlikely he will get pissed and cut you off.
If you say you feel great , that should make the case.
