Trouble Getting Bloods in Canada?

So I just tried asking a doc for some baseline bloods and was straight up about my intentions. And I was refused on the grounds that “tests cost money and that [I] don’t have a good enough reason to get them.” Even in the interest of harm reduction.

What bullshit. We take preemptive measures to treat the preventable diseases encompassed by metabolic syndrome, but refuse to take the same care of those who are actually concerned about their health, but choose a less socially acceptable vice. /rant

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any Canadians here who have faced similar issues getting bloods or if this doc is just a cunt and I had bad luck. If so, how have you gotten around them?

your doctor refused your order?

is that what socialist medicine is like?

Apparently it is, since that’s exactly what happened. Ironically, it’s going to cost the healthcare system MORE if I waste my and the doctor’s time shopping around until I find someone who will give me the blood tests I want.

I can definitely attest to public healthcare having many issues. I’m actually in favour of a semi-private system.

Do you guys have lab corps up there. They are all over the US but wasn’t sure
if you do pretty easy to get private discreet work done for under $80

Unless you live in ny or nj…ugh

Not sure they have it in Canada, but I live in NY and cannot get PML or LEF.
There is a company called MDTESTLABS though, you can order what you want
and they e-mail you the req. It is from a Dr. in Ohio so he writes the script. (skirts the NY, NJ CA laws).
Quest was a little buggy about it, but they always accept it.
Prices aren’t bad either.

They’ll give you the run around until you find the right person who doesn’t have their head up their ass. Try looking around and find a reputable specialist in the area. I know people who have gone years without getting proper tests and diagnoses going because they assume your faking it and there 2 lazy to do more then what’s required. They rather prescribe some bullshit meds and make money off of it.

It is horrible and an advert for semi-private/private. I don’t even had a “family doctor” I can go see for regular checkups. And it’s the case for some 25% of people in Quebec! Ridiculous. And a few years ago, the doctor I finally got to see refused to do tests for… STDs! On the same idiotic ground as in your case: tests cost tax payers money, didn’t approve of me sleeping around (he is the doctor for my GF) and blablabla.

I haven’t found a solution myself. Keep us posted if you do. Good luck.

WTF?! That’s bullshit! When you’re a doctor, sometimes you have to put your personal morals aside in order to act in the best interest of the patient’s health. Do they not tell people this shit in med school anymore?

I may have a solution. I’m debating biting the bullet and asking a close relative to write it. I didn’t want it to come to having to openly admit AAS use to my family, but if that’s what it takes I’ll do it (they all think I’m on anyway).

we have the same problem in iceland wery hard to get a blood test

I’m in Texas and headed in to get bloods done tomorrow morning… Figured if I go ask the doctor to run a full blood panel he has no right to refuse, or does he?

My doctor is all good, but I pay $35 for testosterone test, $30 for Vit D, and $40 for PSA. He writes it up, but I pay LifeLabs. Get a photocopy from him.
Theres sports doctors around Canada, Ontario specifically that I know about that do the tests themselves… $125 for a whole panel…
It’s all how you talk to your doctor, you definatly have to talk the talk.

Heroin and opiate junkies can walk in and get blood tests, get Methadone, and Delytestryl for fuck sakes.

What exactly did you say? I tried just being honest which didn’t go so well. Thinking I might say I already did the cycle and feel suppressed to see how that goes.

And we shouldn’t HAVE to open up or hide it or whatever. We want the tests, do them. Especially if we PAY for them as in JKriminal’s case. Who the hell are they to prevent us from doing that?

And if we pay for the tests, can we do it withOUT seeing a doctor?

In Canada doctors get all goofy. Some don’t give a shit and will prescribe you whatever, give you what you want to an extent if your point is valid. Some don’t like you taking advantage of the OHIP, and some don’t care. I spun it like this.

I said I want to monitor my levels, and be safe in what I’m doing. I said I know your not going prescribe me testosterone, anti e’s, or anything along those lines… but I’m concerned about my health and I’m willing to pay for whatever tests I need. He just wrote up everything he thought was necessary, I asked to add my Testosterone hGH, and PSA… Even thou I was in my early 30’s, and he did.
I had some high levels, and he was concerned, and I get steady tests whenever I ask now.
And hes Muslim and I thought he was going to be a hardass. My family doc retired and this is even a new guy.

You said it. I said that I wanted to do a run of legal PHs (close enough) and though I recognize that while it may not be the wisest decision from a health standpoint, I want to do it in a way that will promote the greatest harm reduction, and give me and the healthcare system any relevant info should I mess up my HPTA in the process. And still the answer was no.

Yet you would get all the help you wanted for a sex change. Or if using heroin. Ridiculous.

Guys you don’t just walk into your family doctor and ‘spill the beans’ about AAS usage and needing bloods. You walk in and ask for a referral to the specialist you want. Don’t even go to your normal clinic, go to a random Wal-Mart one and ask for the referral straight up and give no reason.

Your looking for an Endo, TRT specialist, hell even a fertility specialist. Shop around. Go during your PCT, or lower Test somehow. Describe your ‘symptoms’ and be frank. The whole key here is establishing a relationship with the doctor. If you barge into a clinic demanding free shit (lab work is cheap and publicly accessible… not sure what your referencing above) of course your getting shot the fuck down. Good buzzwords include blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, ‘hourglass’ erection hardness etc…

In Canada a Doc can’t just say ‘you should probably do this’, and send you on your way. That is negligent if you are ‘syptomatic’.

Don’t read US threads on how to get MD prescribed TRT or blood work + analysis, because that will get you shot the fuck down. Learn to work the system here and you’ll realize we have it great here.

Even the biggest hardass MD will give you atleast one. Then you can ‘hook’ them after they draw your sample, and ask for them to show you how to do it yourself. Then, when they analyze the results with you, they will take your second sample and teach you. At that point you’ll either be ‘on your own’, or you can schedule a follow-up. Once that’s scheduled you win.

I’m not looking for TRT (yet…) nor have I ever used AAS. I just want to get preliminary bloods done before I take anything. Think it might work if I went to a Medi-Center, told them I had made a big mistake in doing a cycle of PHs previously and gave them some symptoms of being suppressed?

^ Yes, but exaggerate your symptoms. Post up if you have more problems. Also a cursory search on Google for TRT-friendly docs in your area wouldn’t hurt, not to get yourself on TRT, but because they will experienced and non-judgmental in regards to AAS use.
