That isn’t why it is relevant. It is relevant in determining how the situation escalated from two people talking/yelling in the street, to one person smashing another’s skull into the pavement.
Because, if Zimmerman instigated the physical altercation, it certainly changes things. However if Martian has a past history of violence, and Zimmerman doesn’t, the most reasonable conclusion is that it is more likely Martian initiating the physical altercation.
Stand your ground in this case would be decided by a judge, not a jury, hence why Zimmerman waived it.
Total and complete strawman. No one said he didn’t. His father living there doesn’t give him the right to smash someone’s head into the pavement.
The issue isn’t Martian walking around, the issue is him beating on someone. How the beating started is relevant, not that he was there.

When I’d jury duty and other potential jurors were trying to ask questions they didn’t need answers to the judge was pretty clear on why it wasn’t relevant. All your job is to take the relevant information, information that deals directly with the trial, and decide whether the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt or not. I can see why his Martin’s past wont be part of the trial.
Personally, I don’t really buy Zimmerman’s story. Why would Martin run from him then walk up behind him and confront him? He’d lose the element of surprise by shouting at him. If Zimmerman said someone hit him from behind and a struggle ensued I might believe him.

Well then what do you think happened? You don’t believe that story so what is your guess?
If I’d to guess I’d say it’s mutual. Martin ran and Zimmerman chased him and then it turns into a struggle, Zimmerman is on the losing side of the struggle and shoots Martin. I’m not saying Zimmerman was necessarily looking for a fight, trying to chase somebody down at night can just lead to one. I think the real question is who’s the aggressor when it went from a chase to a struggle.

Not true, his dad’s girlfriend lived there. Never heard if his dad was a regular visitor or not, but it was Martin’s first time there. Some gated communities don’t allow visitors to walk around without an escort who lives there. Not sure about the rules here though.
As far as the “witnesses” changing stories - I have suspicions they are afraid of the possible wrongful death lawsuit against the housing association. Not sure if the residents are the owners or not, but if they are, they would have a vested interest in not getting sued.
Although I think the wrongful death suit, which has been the Martin family’s attorney’s angle all along is coming either way (if I remember correctly, as long as it goes to trial, a civil suit is not off the table), and is even more likely with a guilty conviction. Seeing as how the HOA is probably where the real money is, they are going to be a named party in any civil lawsuit.
One last thing, apparently the prosecution is withholding evidence as far as the contents of Martin’s phone. Pretty sure it’s up to the judge to determine relevance, not the prosecutions decision if it is relevant enough to disclose or not. But what can you expect from a prosecutor who brought these trumped up charges to being with.
In regards to the last name of Zimmerman, I just showed a condo to buyers from Argentina and they didn’t speak one word of English, guess what their last name was?
