Hypothetically speaking, almost 18 years ago some people maybe did bring to attention during sparing sessions that Mirko is opening himself to the inner reaping throw (ouchi gari) and that Russians with a judo background like Igor V and Fedor may take advantage of that.
And who knows, if that actually did happen, maybe those very same people were threatened by his super shady entourage to “shut the fuck up” because they were brought it as occasional sparing partners to shoot for intentionally unsuccessful takedowns so that he’d feel better about himself after performing successful sprawls against judokas and wrestlers.
Agreed. There is a big difference between saying that you enjoyed beating someone at a sport and enjoying injuring them while beating them. The tweet really seems to imply more of the latter than the former. That’s reprehensible, regardless of what the people may or may not have said.
This says a lot (discounting the winner from ChIna as she likely can’t express an opinion either way) about how the actual competitors feel about this topic. Also, if I were them I would be pissed that people were still taking about someone who failed to post a qualifying lift while they are all sitting on the podium.
One of the girl sprinters in CT, during a interview after the race in which the non-transitioned, trans runner won, said that she, and the other girls, couldn’t say what they think about the situation. There was zero tolerance for any sort of dissenting opinion. It’s a total sham. No athletes or coaches spoke out about it at the time, giving the impression that no one had a problem with it. That’s not believable and they were literally coerced into silence. Coaches would lose their jobs and athletes would be kicked off the teams. The issue was not even up for debate. Some female athletes sued but…
If being trans isn’t an advantage for biological males, where are all the biological females dominating men’s sports? Transitioning should have put them on an even playing field, no?
This gets to the issue of fairness. If transgenderism can only affect biological females negatively, then it can’t be fair.
The father of one of the trans girls tried to be clever by using what is now a canned response for pro transgenders in women’s sports. He asked if it was fair that when he played football there were dudes who were 300 pounds to his 225. The idea being biology gives advantages in different ways. My question to him would be, how about we get rid of separating sports by sex/gender so your daughter can go back to being non competitive against biological boys? Would that be fair? Then watch him squirm when in his defense he’s forced to acknowledge that sports are segregated by sex for biological reasons based on sex.
I guess you’re talking about Quinn, formerly known as Rebecca Quinn who is a biological female. Quinn identifies as non-binary, whatever what means, but she’s biologically a female so there’s no advantage.
Quinn’s situation is completely different than Laurel Hubbard, who was born a man and competed as one. Here’s Quinn’s page from her college days: Quinn - 2017 - Women's Soccer - Duke University
It is for sure confusing! Here’s what I’m pretty confident is the case with Quinn. She’s a woman. Yes, I know I’m not using the pronoun she would prefer but I’m just trying to make this clear. She was born a female and she is biologically a female. However, she has decided that she/they is non-binary. So, Quinn doesn’t identify as a man or a woman. I don’t have any clue how someone comes up with that determination. She/they seems confused, but whatever.
The bottom line is that there’s no performance benefit from Quinn deciding to use an alternative pronoun and saying she’s non-binary as biologically she is a woman and has been her entire life.
I’m not defending dudes who compete with women and say it’s fair. I don’t think it is. I’ve got a daughter who’s a competitive athlete and I don’t want her to have to compete against boys who’ve decided they identify as girls and/or guys
who have transitioned into a woman but grew up male with all the hormonal benefits that usually gives us.
I hold a “controversial” belief. That Laurel Hubbard is a women. And while she is equal to other women - she is different.
The biggest difference being that she used to have a dick and balls.
I think the big part of the issue is any time you point out the obvious differences between a regular woman and a trans woman - people think you are about to use it as a beating stick. And you know what - sometimes I think it has been used like that. But it is being used to silence legitimate concerns.
Concerns that have seen some really unpleasant scenes. Rugby team have been “back listed” as they refuse to play against transitioning players. IE Men that are still men and not even taking T blockers. I tried to find the story online as it is quiet tragic. If anyone one wants I’ll let you know what I heard (2nd hand story).
But back to the point - Trans athletes do deserve a place to compete. They do. But there right to a competition should not infringe on the right of no tradeswomen to compete on a level playing field. Because at the moment - I could enter the UK strongest woman show and win. Or come close. That is the level of discrepancy between the sexes
Everyone does IMO, and the number of specialty sports leagues and separate competitive divisions within those leagues has no cap to it.
Take powerlifting, for instance. There’s already enough federations for my obscure town to have like 7 world record holders. If winning first place is that important, just make more first places to go around. A trans fed would just be another drop in the bucket and we can have dozens of new powerlifting world record holders just by starting that league.
The notion of “tolerance” has been perverted, pun intended, by LGBTQIA+ activists, or wherever the acronym stands for the moment. Their version of tolerance really means deference. Use our speech codes. Comport your behavior to our ever-changing list of demands. Women’s sports belongs to us now. Pretend that person with their dick out in front of your daughter is not a man waving his junk in a child’s face. Celebrate the chemical and physical mutilation of children, etc.
Refusal can be met with social ostracization, loss of job and many would love this to be enforced by the law as well. In parts of Canada, it is.
No thanks. I choose not to defer to my trans friends’ rather bizarre pronoun requests which break the language conventions I’ve grown accustomed to in my four decades. He’s still the same asshole he was before he came out as the queerest person around. I’m not about to begin treating friends special just because they’re trans all of a sudden.
We’re still good friends. We were just out on the boat last week. Like any other relationship in life, it is a two-way street.
There are 50 year old men who played basketball or soccer in high school, not good enough for college unless it was a small school, who could take a few months to get in shape and go on to beat the best female teams in those sports.
Some may think that’s hyperbole but the women’s national soccer team was beaten by a team of 14 year old boys. And yes, they were good 14 year olds but also not the level of 14 year olds in the major European academies. So the best women in the world were beaten by good, not the best, 14 year old boys.
Then there is Artie Lange who almost beat a female college basketball player in spite of being close to death. He was beating her until he got tired.
I’m aware of the match and it does not surprise me. I have played no contact rugby against women and then levels of fitness are different. Which is odd - as I really enjoy watching women’s rugby. It more skill based than mens.
But back on point. Having working testicles from ages 11-18 is a game changer. Men get all the advantages physically.
@twojarslave I actually agree with everything you said. I think we are different on the “are trans women, women” thing. But that is cool. I have my reasons for saying yes. And I genuinely see why people say no.
Where I really agree with you in this bit:
So much of this was labeled a “right wing fear mongering” just a few years back. And now its kinda coming true at the first hurdle.
I was asked on line why I thought puberty blockers for kids was a bad idea. And I replied that at age 13 you can’t go under elective plastic surgery. Which is no too far off what this is.
But hey back on point.
There will soon be a trans federation. The IOC will make a trans class (I hope) and we will not have to debate this. Until then I feel sorry for all the girl (regular girls) that have places taken by trans girls and all the trans girls that have no where else to compete.
Yes. That should be a big draw. “They don’t have the physical ability of the men, and they don’t have the T&A of the women. They’re mentally disturbed and weird. Join us as we admire the bravery of those willing to mutilate themselves in a way that’s totally not insane.”
