The more that I think about stepping on stage for a bodybuilding show, the more enticing it sounds. Mostly, it depends on where I end up going to college. Here’s my situations:
West Point - I would have to compete in April or May, first week of June at the latest.
Any other school - July or August.
Either way, it’d be a great experience for myself. I’d prefer that I be able to compete at the latest possible time before I go to college.
Shoulder dislocates (These are awesome; they make my shoulders feel 10x better)
Standing Overhead Press
Sets 1-3 - 45x12
Set 4 - 95x3
Set 5 - 115x3
Sets 6-7 - 135x8* PR. Not sure by how many pounds or reps, but I’ve never done it before. I’ll take it.
Dumbbell Front Raises
3x12x20s
Dumbbell Side Raises
3x12x15s
Rear Delt Flye Machine
3x15x30
Barbell Shrugs
Set 1 - 275x12
Set 2 - 295x12
Set 3 - 315x12
NOTES: Was able to use chalk on these, so no need for straps. Got all of the reps nice and clean.
Dumbbell Shrugs
3x15x80s
NOTES: 2 second squeeze at the top.
Neck Machine
3x20
ENDING NOTES: Great shoulder workout today. OHP felt real strong and solid. Looking for 2x5x145 next week. All of my training partners are at the Arnold without me
Was looking at some of the pics from the last NPC bodybuilding show in the heavyweight teen division - they’re skinny. I would definitely kill it on stage. So, if everything works out to where I can compete in August 2013, here’s how the plan would work.
Right now, I’m about 195. I’m looking to get to 205 by June and maintain through the football season. Season will probably end in November.
Train from November 2012 to July 2013. That’s 9 months of work. I’ll have to bulk for 5 months and then start dieting 16 weeks (4 months out). If I’m still 205 by the end of football season, then I’m thinking that I can get to about 225 or 230 and then cut from there. I’d like to step on stage at a lean and ripped 200.
Win whatever competition I compete in in dominating fashion.

NOTES: Super happy about the increase in arm and chest size. Although, I think that the whole chest increase is due to an increase in back width and size, as well (secretly doing happy dance).

Yes, really. I could eat this kid. He won last year’s NPC Midwest Classic for the overall teen division. Really?

It will happen. I put on another 30 pounds by April of next year (which would put me at 225), lose about 20-25 pounds during my cut, I’ll be unstoppable.
NOTES: These were easy. Going to do 5 sets of 6 next week.
Kroc Rows
Warm up - 80x6
Work set
105x30* +5 lb PR and +5 rep PR. Video to come.
Wide-grip Lat Pulldowns
3x12x120
Close-grip Low Cable Row
3x12x120
EZ Bar Curls
Set 1 - 60x12
Sets 2-3 - 60x10
Incline Bench Dumbbell Hammer Curls
3x12x15s
Cable Curls
3x12x35
Preacher Curl Machine
3x12x20
ENDING NOTES: Good session today. Real happy with the PR on Kroc Rows. Hoping to add some serious width to my back before summer roles around. I’ll be shooting for the 110x25 next week.
Tweaked my lower back during Kroc rows. Nothing too serious, however. Just gonna rest it up until work.
Just looking over my bench cycle and I’m projected to finish with a max of 305. Um, score?
Still trying to find a meet to lift in. The closest meet is this Saturday (which I obviously won’t be lifting in), but I’d be going to support some of my lifting buddies from Quads. Then there’s one on April 14, but I’d still have about three weeks of my training cycle left. FUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
The earliest I’d be able to compete would be in the first week of May. So, we’ll see what happens.
Watching some highlights from the XPC meet this weekend, and I have to say, Henry Thomason’s lifts were complete bullshit. No doubt, he’s a strong dude, but his squats were definitely high. I guess Ed was right in saying that the gear has become obnoxious. I’ve changed my mind and only want to compete in single-ply; no multi-ply for me. I think it ruins the integrity of the sport.
Sets 1-3 - 45x15
Set 2 - 95x5
Set 3 - 115x5
Set 4 - 135x5
Set 5 - 155x3
Set 6 - 175x1
Set 7 - 195x1
Set 8 - 215x1
Sets 9-10 - 235x5* 20 lb. PR. My previous best 5RM was 215, and these sets were easy. I have a video, as well.
Paused Close-grip Bench Press
2x5x185* 10 lb. PR. Again, these were easy. I would’ve been good for 10 reps.
Incline Bench Press
2x5x185* 20 lb. PR. Hit 165 last week for 8, so this was a PR tonight. These were easy.
Hammer Strength Incline Press
4x15x155 + mini band
NOTES: These were different. Ed wasn’t there tonight, so I was kinda on my own for my assistance work, so I decided to change it up a bit and use some tactics that are more commonly used by Dave Tate and Dan Jon. Kept my pecs under constant tension, so they did their job.
Triceps Pushdowns
4x15x40
Rolling Dumbbell Triceps Extensions
4x15x35s
Band-assisted Pull-ups
5x6
NOTES: Getting easier and easier every week. They’re doing their job.
ENDING NOTES: Overall, it was a great workout. I hit 3 PRs in a row, so I couldn’t ask for much more. Got cardio in the morning and then squats on Wednesday, the day Ed and my training partners can tell me about how much fun they had at the Arnold without me. Can’t wait.
