Training With Ed Coan

Remember when we talked about Ed Coan in my log? Is there a reason squats changed to paused squats and Incline stuff into 2 board?
No clue. I don’t know what goes on in that brain of his.

Oh and also If I did it shooting for a 235 bench the last week, I’d start with like 115x2x10? And CG and incline 85x2x10? That seems crazy low like it’d be insanely easy. Should I shoot for a higher max then?
It will be for a while. Only recently has the bench training become difficult for me. I breezed through the first cycle and put 40 lbs. on my bench.

Shoot for something conservative, usually 20-30 lbs. is adequate.

What schools are you looking into. College is a great time, enjoy it.

I’m looking at West Point, VMI, The Citadel, and North Georgia College (where I’m at right now).

Hey man good luck college hunting!

Thursday, June 7, 2012 - Bullshit Around

Today, I just walked into the college’s fitness center and fucked around. I only had an hour to lift, which wasn’t enough for a full squat workout. I just hit an easy set of 275 for 5, a couple sets of leg press, and some abs. I don’t think it was enough to tire me out too bad.

Texted Ed and got the squat plan for the next few weeks leading up to the meet. We have 3 weeks of 5, 1 week of triples, and 2 weeks of doubles. Each week of 5s will go up in weight. We’re starting out with a weight that we can hit for an easy 5.

I’ll most likely be home on Friday night/Saturday morning, so I’ll see how I feel on Saturday and if I can get a serious squat workout in. If I can’t, then this workout will count as my first week of 5s. Since this was easy, I’ll go up to 295 next week. Kind of confusing trying to figure out what my next couple weeks will workout since I wasn’t there yesterday, but I’ll cope.

In other news, I had my ROTC scholarship interview today. I’m pretty sure I aced it. I’ll find out whether or not I got the scholarship in October.

Dude, you got it. An ideal interview is basically a fluid conversation.

Man, I was nervous, but I think I said all the right things and impressed the lieutenant giving me the interview. I feel like this is the place I need and want to be and where I can emerge as the leader and soldier I always knew that I was.

CS

Decided that I’m just going to save myself for next week. If I get back to Chicago on time on Saturday, I’ll try and squeeze in a shoulders and biceps workout. If not, oh well, just gotta go back in on Monday and kill it.

CS

Finally back in Chicago after spending the last 4 days in Georgia. Had a blast and can’t wait to go back for orientation (maybe). Pretty much where I’ve decided to go. On an actual lifting note, I got bench night tomorrow. Hopefully my shoulder is up to it. It hasn’t been bothering me the last couple days, so I’ll just ice it before I go, do some mobility work, pop a couple of Tylenol and see how it goes.

Lol I haven’t been able to whore plasma for a while now. My pulse doesn’t meet the facility minimum requirements because I work out too much.

My pulse is like 43 or somethin

Monday, June 11, 2012 - Bench Day

Warm up

 1. Shoulder tractioning (felt so good, thanks Fletch!)
 2. More shouldery stuff
 3. Lots of streching

NOTES: My PVC is MIA. Don’t know where it went :frowning:

Flat Bench Press
2 X 6 X 135
1 X 3 X 185
1 X 2 X 225
1 X 1 X 250
2 X 3 X 275* +5 lb. & +1 rep PR.

NOTES: Facking awesome. Everything was fast and easy. I moved my grip in 2 fingers (so that my pinkies were on the rings) to see how it felt, and it felt great. No shoulder pain and my triceps did a lot of the work. It even felt stronger with a closer grip. I think I’ll be doing this from now on.

Paused 2 Board Bench Press
1 X 3 X 275

NOTES: PR I guess? Never done it before, so I’ll take it. Shoulder didn’t like it, so I called it there just to save myself.

Incline Bench Press
2 X 3 X 185
1 X 3 X 185* Paused. PR?

NOTES: Moved my grip in a lot and still felt fine. Pauses were better than the regular sets. Feeling good about this.

Dips
5 X 12 X BW

NOTES: Shoulder felt fine. Nice and easy, good pump.

Straight Bar Triceps Pushdowns
4 X 8 X 60

Cable Flyes
3 X 12 X 60 (each side)

One-arm Cable Pushdowns
1 X 30 X 20 (each arm)

NOTES: No attachments, just the cable. One burnout set then I was done.

ENDING NOTES: Overall, awesome fucking day. Couldn’t ask for a better bench session. Finally getting back into it. Shoulder’s still a little iffy, but if I just take care of it and keep working at it, I shouldn’t have a problem come the meet.

Speaking of the meet, I talked to Ed about it today, and it’s official: I’m in! Can’t wait! Gunning for some national records. Got some cardio tomorrow; weird, I know.

CS

Great progress CS.

Surprised at the use of boards though. Is that something that Ed Coan told you to do? In an interview he seemed quite against using all this “new” stuff of bands and chains and boards etc. Curious, has he ever talked about bands/chains and what he thinks of it all?

Haha, yeah, he has. He likes chains and boards; we use them all the time. Boards more often than chains. He hates bands with a passion, and that’s all I’m going to say lol.

CS

Lol, why? :stuck_out_tongue:

Damn Americans with all their good lifters. :frowning:
