Monday, April 9, 2012 - Fucking Smash PRs Day: Part II

Warm up

 1. PVC roll everything
 2. Lots of stretching
 3. Band stretching
 4. Rotator cuff

Flat Bench Press
1 X 15 X 45
2 X 6 X 135
1 X 3 X 185
1 X 1 X 205
1 X 1 X 225
1 X 1 X 255
2 X 2 X 285* +10 lb. & +2 rep PR.

NOTES: Got these. The first rep of each set was easy. I felt like I could’ve handled 295, maybe even 300 tonight. The first set went pretty well. I got both of the reps by myself. The second rep of each set was a grinder, but I got them, nonetheless. I’m thankful for that. Looking for 295 for 2 singles next week. Who knows after that. I’m sure I have 300 in me.

Paused Close-grip Bench Press
2 X 2 X 240* +15 lb. PR.

NOTES: Went up 15 lbs this week because last week was too easy. Got both sets easy as well. The first set, I touched too low on my chest, causing my back to flatten and lose tightness. The second set, I touched a bit higher, and they just exploded off the chest. Another great week of these.

Incline Bench Press
2 X 1 X 235* +10 lb. PR.

NOTES: The most I’ve ever done on incline is 240, and these reps were pretty easy. I’m looking for 245, maybe 250 next week for singles.

Triceps Pushdowns Latter
2 X 8 X 30
2 X 8 X 40
2 X 8 X 50
2 X 8 X 60
2 X 8 X 70
2 X 8 X 80
2 X 8 X 90

NOTES: These were done all in a row. We did 8 reps with a weight, went up, and kept going. We did 2 rounds of this. My triceps were fried after that.

Pec Dec Flyes
2 X 12 X 100

ENDING NOTES: Another great bench session tonight. Three plates is closer than I think. The close-grips are coming along again. Incline is iffy, but I’m not too concerned about that. Got squats on Wednesday. Looking for 380 for a single. We’ll see how it goes. I gotta get a huge bloat going for that one.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012 - Awesomeness Night

Warm up

 1. PVC roll everything
 2. Lots of stretching
 3. Shoulder work

Paused Squats
2 X 6 X 135
1 X 3 X 185
3 X 5 X 245* 20 lb. PR.

NOTES: First set sucked. I missed depth on all but one. Ed was telling me that I wasn’t bending my knees enough and that I was bending over at the waist too much. Fixed it for the second and third sets and the weight flew up every time. Absolutely killed them. Good lifting, right there.

Conventional Deadlifts
1 X 6 X 135
1 X 3 X 225
1 X 2 X 275
3 X 5 X 315* Beltless PR.

NOTES: We started pulling from the floor (FINALLY!) and without a belt, just to ease into it. Felt good to finally pull from the floor again. I’ve never done work sets without a belt before, so this was kind of new. Form stayed solid the entire time. Back was flat, chest was out, all that good stuff. Going to start using a belt in about 2-3 weeks.

On the first set, I was sitting too far back and not using enough leg drive (a.k.a. quads). Ed told me to transfer some of the weight to my toes right before I lift it off the ground. I gave that a try and the weight came flying off the ground; I probably could’ve cleaned it haha. The second set was eaaaaaaasy. Each rep felt light in my hands. Third set, I gotta a little tired, but I got all the reps.

Bent Over Barbell Rows
1 X 10 X 185
3 X 8 X 185
1 X 10 X 185

Wide-grip Lat Pulldwons
4 X 10 X 160

Followed by death.

ENDING NOTES: Probably the hardest back day that I’ve ever had before. I’m not going to be able to get out of bed under my own power tomorrow. This is gonna suck. However, if we keep that up, I’m gonna have to start greasing up doorways just to fit me through. I feel that my back is gonna get real wide from these. I feel like my back is knots, it’s so tight. Gonna roll the shit out of it tonight and tomorrow.

Felt good to finally pull from the floor again. I’m getting back to where I was. I got a good feeling about this.

Dude, you are crushing it.

Thanks, man, I appreciate it. Just gotta keep working harder and harder. Everyday is an opportunity to further myself from “the norm” and become better than I already am.

CS

Definitely awesome work, particularly on that bench press, your making me warn to the Coan system for bench for sure!

Goal list for bench:

305 in a week or two.
335 before August 8.
350 before February 2013.
375-385 before I graduate from high school (June 2013).
405 before I start college (August 2013).
500 before I graduate from college (May 2017).

All RAW. Let’s do it.

You’re a junior? I thought you were a senior.

No sir, I’m a junior. I’m just old for my grade.

Sometimes I wish I was like that just so I could be just as strong, but younger. It’d look a lot more impressive.

Goals for the squat, let’s see:

By August 2012 - 405
By end of senior year (June 2013) - 455
By graduating college (May 2017) - 600-650

Deadlift:

By August 2012 - 455
By end of senior year (June 2013) - 525
By graduating college (May 2017) - 650-700

Lofty goals, I know, but I think I can do it. A bench mark I’m looking for is a 1,600 RAW total by the time I graduate from college. I’d like to be one of the top ranked 220 RAW lifters in the country, if not the world. Or, I might think about going single-ply mid-way through college or something. I don’t know. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Gotta milk this as long as I can.

As far as the bodybuilding show, probably not :frowning: As much as I would love to, I just don’t think it’s feasible.

CS

Mine are loftier. Fuck critics and doubts and just do it.
