Training Effect of Two-a-Days and Beyond

Hey Coach Thibaudeau, everybody,

To set up the context here, after reading “The Thib System,” I’ve been experimenting with multiple “mini workouts” throughout the day, and I’ve been fairly consistently able to get at least two:

One at about 8:30 am, about an hour (uninterrupted; before work);

One in the afternoon, but maybe for only 15-30 minutes, and/or with the possibility of interruptions.

Even if I’m busy, I can usually fit the target volume into several “mini sessions” of, say, 1 to 3 sets at a time throughout the day.

Here’s my chest day, for example:

8:30 - Strength
Flat barbell bench press
10 sets of 5, with challenging weight (plus warmup)
Total workout time: 40-60 minutes

4:00 PM - Volume (GVT style)
Pec Deck
10 sets of 10, 30 seconds rest with challenging weight
Total workout time: ~15 minutes

But is that enough? How can I optimize shorter workouts like this and still make gains? Is my afternoon workout doing anything, or do I need to find a way to fit more volume in?

Thanks for your insight!

CT talking in a spill about 2 a days.

Nice. Not to mention the “20 Minute Muscle Builder” article* just went up minutes after I posted this, validating my shorter workout question! (Although I might have to rethink my programming)

That spill answered alot of my questions, thanks for finding that. The big question that’s still hanging over me though is about peri-workout nutrition. Normally I have the bulk of my carbs about an hour after my workout… If I’m doing 2 workouts a day, should I divide the peri-workout carbs and protein evenly between the two?
