I was talking to a client of mine and something clicked in my head about a philosphy I have.

You train because you have goals to ascertain and aspire to.

you Workout to pass the time.

I “Train” to get better at what I am doing - so in essence I am practicing over and over again my lifts or skills for my various endeavors.

I see people workout all the time ( I am a Trainer) who look the same month after month- no log,no goals = no clue.

Random thoughts.

Rick

ps: I mean if you see no progression in your lifts over a period of months/years. I would go nuts/crazy about my inability to succeed in my chosen endeavor.
Reposted for myself and others.
True talk Rick.

@ Kevin, yes meant pummeling. It is easier to imagine what we were doing by describing that online I thought.
In all reallity it was more of trying to get dominant waist control/clinch before we would reset.

We have a few schools around here as well that have that Siren Song to me as well. I so want to train for a Grappling meet but there is no way in hell I would recieve a license with my Pacemaker.

So I train to help out the young guys prepare for meets/matches as best I can.

You are such a success story. I really admire you.

Your new avi looks like something from a martial arts school?

Yes it is.

I just got back from a 6 day stay in the hospital. I fractured my L7 vertebrea and herniated L6 L5 possible L4 as well.

Want to know how I did it ? I don’t know how… But it locked up on me when I was filling air into the kiddie pool off of a compressor sqauting down. WTF. I just start to get all healed and this shit happens…Again.

I am real frustrated about this, I have stopped doing all of the real rough stuff since getting my pacemaker @ 37 yrs old and I am getting hurt more now. FUCK.

Rick

That’s a crazy story! I hope your road back is a short one.

Rick - remember what motivates you, and bounce back. You are an inspiration.

You have got to be kidding me, man that sucks. Im sorry to hear about this. I hope you heal up quick, and try to stay occupied with something else…damn.

Rick
take care and heal up.

kmc

I’m so sorry. Wondered where you have been. Think of you when I do jump squats and other plyo stuff that I’ve started adding in but don’t tend to log.

Will this require surgery? What’s your mobility like now?

Egads. Wish there was something profound I could say . . .

dude, this sucks, but knowing you you will recover to be better than 99.9% of the populace

That’s just crazy. I’ve heard stories like that. One big guy at my gym who once benched 600 told me his worst injury was opening a window. Seriously.

Your pacemaker makes me feel lucky. I have problems with arythmia and palpitations but thankfully a pill takes care of it, no one tried to cut me open. Curious: can you adjust the speed of the pacemaker for exercising?

What big Pete says.

With your mental strength and smarts though, you’ve probably still got most of that 99.9% covered.

@cavalier. It is an Adapta that changes to my load I place on the heart. Cool piece of equitment.

Thanks guys. My spirits are just low right now is all. I start seeing the light in regards to no injuries and wham another fucking roadblock.

Oh well it is the journey not the destination right?

This was said to me along time ago “The only easy day was yesterday son. You can’t change the past, but you can change the future”

Well off to do some pullups and some isometrics.

Rick

Good news at last. Doc cleared me to start lifting gain (within reason).

So I also found out my c5-c6 is fubared causing nerve damage ( which I knew) but to the extent of 35% loss roughly of strength from the left to right side through the pulling/curling/rowing/deadlifting motions (explains alot!).

My L5-L6 are herniated and the vertebrae are fractured - so touch and go with pulling/sqautting for now.

So I am formatting a plan with my PT to help aleve the pressure without surgery.

Goals: Need to drop down to 210lbs ( I weigh 228 morning) more to come.

Rick

Glad to see you posting.

So no surgery? How can you be cleared to lift with all that nonsense going on? I don’t get it. Are you in pain?

Pain? Oh yeah. Will it stop me from lifting? Nope. The fractures are in the vertebrae and there is really nothing to do but let heal over time. Regards to the discs they will go in remission with me by mobility and movement.

No grappling/sparring for now.

Surgery: They can perform but can’t really give an answer on pain reduction or less chance of flare-ups.
